Personal Narrative: My Golf Experience

Improved Essays
The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach. I had to be taken out of school for some tournaments and it seemed like a lot of my teachers taught something new on the days that I was gone. I got behind in some of my …show more content…
I’ve learned to never get behind in classes, manage my time, and ask for help more often. The point that I would like to tell the incoming freshman is that they should manage their time better with school work, especially when they’re playing a sport and ask for help when you need it. The better that the incoming freshman manage their time the better they will feel when they possibly don’t have any homework because you might have already done it, just in case if your busy after school. My experience connects with the point that I’m trying to make because golf took up most of my time and managing my time really helped with my grades. When I was gone for a few days I got lost and I never really asked for help from my teachers, but now I sometimes ask for help if I’m really starting to get behind in one of my classes. My point is hopefully helping other students, to learn to manage their time for school work and other activities, especially when playing a sport. I hope that kids will now understand that they should ask for help when they don’t understand something because once you learn one thing in a class it’s always somehow connected with everything else that you are going to be learning in the near

The game of golf is almost more mental than it is physical. Having the ability to control one’s thoughts and emotions can turn good players into great ones. Many players learn how to play the game physically, but cannot ever make a leap towards better golf due to their actions and thoughts on the course. When playing bad, all it may take is a change in mindset or attitude to get one back on track. Sometimes it’s a little change in swing thought that will turn one’s round around.…

Seeing my peers play tennis got me interested to join and although I was mediocre at first, I improved by applying my coach and friends’ advice. There were times I wanted to quit because I plateaued, but I stayed. I fell in love with my team because I finally found my place of belonging. I could not let my family down after all of their encouragement. After several practices filled with sweat and pain, I made it to varsity.…

The day started like any other, but the same could not be said for how it ended. I arrived at the town golf course, Longshore, about 30 minutes before my tee time. There was slight cloud coverage, minimal wind, and a comfortable temperature. Glints of sun through the clouds periodically illuminated blades of grass, almost signaling for the ball to be hit there. The bentgrass took a deep, rich shade of green from the recent douses of rain.…

I spent over twenty-three years as an employee of McNary Golf Club. In that time there were a lot of ups and until a few years ago, only a few downs. In the last few years I learned some very discouraging lessons about loyalty and that it was not a two way street. With the help of of a handful of classes I took at George Fox University in the Adult Degree Program, I was able to dig deep and make one of the most difficult decisions of my life; to leave the only job I have known my entire adult life.…

I was standing by myself on the bright green tennis court, gripping my racket. Groups of other tennis players were leaning against the chain link fence, waiting, like me, for tryouts to begin. Listening intently to the conversation going on around me, I was trying to get absorbed into what was going on. After what felt like forever, but in reality was only minutes a friend of mine and returning player walked over to me. Having not seen each other in a month or so we both greeted each other enthusiastically.…

When I am not in school, and not with my friends, I am definitely doing something lacrosse oriented. Even before I began playing lacrosse, I was told by my bestfriend that lacrosse was referred to as “the creator’s game” by his coach. The first time I set foot on a lacrosse field was in 4th grade, and it is just as hard to take that foot off the field now, as it was the first day. My burning passion for the game only grows stronger the more I play.…

School is an extremely stressful time and stress can easily become overbearing for those who strive for excellence in education. Some students, like myself, have part-time jobs while attending school. While upholding such a tight schedule, it can be very difficult to find time to study and do assignments. A job is a requirement so that money is accessible and payments for education are available. School can be expensive and student loans add up, so a job is needed to pay for it.…
