Personal Narrative: My Goals As A Nursing Assistant

As high school has progressed I have pondered about my future and what I have wanted to become when I am older. For many including myself, it has been a strenuous thought to come across. I have spent many sleepless nights wondering if I'm ever going to be successful, and lately I have had a profound curiosity on what the future enthralls for me.

I once saw a quote that said,
"Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success." By Pablo Picasso. This quote was the wakeup call that I urgently needed to strive towards what I wanted to achieve and start as soon as possible on my career plan. Years of thinking have passed and I finally know what I want to accomplish in my life… I have decided that I want to go into the medical field and work in the Emergency unit. However, most of the time I found myself going to the memory care unit within the nursing home because I was and still am curious about the many different psychological disorders and diseases including Alzheimer’s and Dementia that some of the residents had there. Furthermore, every Tuesday and Thursday, we went to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy and got to shadow nurses and physicians around for an hour and a half; we went everywhere in the hospital, such as the Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, Labor and Delivery, Lab and many more. Here I was able to see procedures and intriguing things I wouldn’t see elsewhere: C-Sections, Vaginal Births, PEG tubes, broken bones, massive cuts and even a heart attack right there in an emergency room bed were just some of the things that I observed during my junior
