Personal Narrative: My Freshmen Year Of High School

Improved Essays
When my freshmen year of high school in the fall of 2014, I was beginning to look forward to a great year, a great season of cross-country, and a great new school. What I wasn’t looking forward to was the problems and adjustments I would have to make as a new freshmen in high school, especially my first ever all boys, Catholic School. I knew adjustments were a part of life and that I would have to come to terms to that and enjoy the new experience as much as I could. The problems I was trying to prepare myself were not even close to what I had to actually go through that year. When freshmen year first started, I was going to cross-country practice after school every day. I met amazing people and became a part our outstanding cross country family. As time went on, I grew closer to certain people and ran with my same group. My group first started off with me and two other boys, Nolan and Jake. Nolan eventually became faster than Jake and I and soon enough, it was just us to. This wasn’t a problem for the two of us because it turns out, we had a lot in common and really enjoyed talking to each other. We enjoyed talking so much actually, that we both looked forward to seeing each other in practice.

As time went on, I got the impression that my friend, and running buddy, Jake was gay and a huge crush on me. I was flattered but acted as if I

In cross-country, I found a new group, and he ran by himself. I remember when we had meets and we were all on the bus together, people would make fun of him for being gay and teased him the whole trip. To get my point across to him that I was serious about what I said, I joined in and went right along with all of the joking. He would look at me with such hurt in his eyes but I would only keep going. I was being extremely selfish. I got bullied all through school and this was the first time I was truly ‘accepted’ and I had no intention of letting him take that

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

He immediately made a joke about me being a plant and tried to get me to take down my queer poster. That was when I realized that none of my male friends would take my sexuality seriously. None of them are mature enough. They are too attached to the heteronormative perspective and are unwilling to see anything…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

I always felt like everyone had a special talent accept me. Some could paint, act, play sports, but that was never me. I was just a little girl being bullied for having a blanket and sucking my thumb in first grade. Always left out and being told I would never amount to much, took a big toll on my grades. All throughout elementary school I was in the “special” classes.…

My freshman year of college I struggled greatly with the cost of college. I had moved out of my mother’s house and was living with my grandmother. I worked a part time job of 15 hours while taking 19 hours of school. Because I did not have my own place I was still considered under my mother’s income. My mother does not make very much money.…

I started complimenting him on his outfits and he would just brush it off like I did not say anything. Then I started complimenting him and his girlfriend, saying how cute they were together. His girlfriend would say “Thank you” and Braden would reply with a sarcastic joke. Trying this experiment on a boy was much different then trying it on a girl because I could not find much to compliment him on. This experiment had no impact on our friendship and we have remained the same since the experiment.…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…
