Personal Narrative: My Freshman Year Of High School

Improved Essays
From a purely numerical standpoint, I have nearly no business being considered a prestigious individual by institutions of higher learning, like Knox University. My weighted GPA is a 3.3, my unweighted a 2.93. Hardly impressive. What this application cannot tell you about my GPA is that it is not an accurate reflection of who I am today. My freshman year of high school, I was naive and apathetic towards school. My first semester of school, I had a 1.3 cumulative GPA. I realized that this was unacceptable, and that I needed to step up my game. And next semester, step up my game I did, I killed it. My GPA was a 1.7, the highest it had been since 2nd grade.
My parents, of course, never found out. It’s not that I had hid my grades, it was that

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

Currently, my high school grade point average (GPA) is a 3.6 unweighted and 4.5 weighted. In my college courses, my GPA is 4.0. I am extremely proud of this number, but I wish that I had the motivation and work ethic that I have now during my freshman year. If my motivation and work ethic changed during my freshman year, I would have a higher GPA today. For the spring semester, my midterm exams are in March.…
