Personal Narrative: My Firstborn Child

I awoke to the sound of the baby monitor crackling with a voice comforting my firstborn child. As I adjusted to a new position, my arm brushed against my wife, sleeping next to me. I got startled and got up quickly, accidently waking my wife who asked what was wrong. I told her I thought there was someone in the baby’s room, but I told her to stay in here. I grabbed the knife on the bedside table and crept slowly out of my room to our daughter’s room. After a few agonizing seconds I reached the door and slowly opened the door, and to my surprise there was nothing or anything there.
I ran up to the crib to see if she was alright. I looked in to see two small blue eyes staring up at me.
“Thank God” I sighed picking her up to comfort her. After she fell back asleep I put her back in the crib and headed back to my room.

“Yeah I guess the baby monitor was just acting up.” I told hiding the fact I was a little freaked out.
“That’s a relief.” She replied lying back down to go to sleep. I followed her lead and laid down to try and fall asleep.

I was almost asleep when I heard a glass shattering in the kitchen. I jumped out of bed and reached below the bed to grab a 22 cal. rifle. I checked the magazine to see if it was full. After I was sure it was loaded I started to walk down the stairs to the kitchen looking outside to see a raging snowstorm outside. “Who would be in our house?” I thought, “We lived on a mountain no neighbors in sight.” I continued walking downstairs, as I was reaching the
