Decent Essays
This August I was home with just my parents. They were about to leave for a Zac Brown Band Concert they were going to and meet up with their friends. I had just had a tough week of cleaning up from a party, hanging out with my friends, and working. My plan was to fall asleep around 10 and sleep in, which was my plan for most of the summer. I was bored but didn’t particularly feel like doing anything. My parents asked me “Kara do you wanna come with us?” The first image that popped into my mind was my parents dancing around me to their favorite country music embarrasing me along the way. I had already been to three concerts, and I wasn’t a big fan of Zac Brown like my parents were. I replied “Eh, don’t really feel up to it.” I was so nervous

These were on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. The album as a whole I will rank at the end after presenting all my points. Country music it's beautiful when sung right and no it's not just about cheating on your wife and drinking beer. Justin does a pretty good job presenting himself in the country manner he goes slow enough to where you can always understand him and has that slow southern drawl.…

I was waiting for the match ahead of me to be over. I hear the loud whistle come from the match and I walk over to the head table to check in. Butterflies were flying around my stomach. The people at the table hand me my band and I jog over to my coach, and see my opponent, the state champ. I put my green band on as my coach says “All you have to do is win the match and we win the duel.”…

My ears were popping and I was starting to feel light headed as we climbed higher and higher toward Red Rocks Amphitheater. Red Rocks is right outside the edge of the hipster, pot smoking, mile high city Denver. I was going to see the dirty rocking, alternative, up in coming band Cage the Elephant. When you are first entering Red Rocks park everything drastically changes. The sky starts to turn a darker more vivid blue as everything else turns a tint of red form the dust.…

Being apart of Concert Winds during my four years has stayed infinitely close to my heart. Everyday I see students progress and learn; I see students come to class every day with a passion and enthusiastic attitude for music. As an upper class man I have the privilege of seeing younger students grow, and encourage them to continue within the arts. Nothing can make me more proud than to see students learn and help encourage them to accomplish all they can in music. The Fairfield Music Department not only teaches kids of all grade levels to be young musicians, but they serve their community and school district in countless ways.…

The first time I walked into the Ashley band room, I had no idea what to do with myself. I was scared and trying to get used to a lot of changes that had just taken place in my life, and sitting in the front row being directed by someone three times my size was quite an intimidating way to start out my first day at a new school. Despite that, I quickly realized that I was setting myself up to be a part of something incredible when, during a quiet moment, someone in the back of the room (I still have no idea who it was) let out a loud Chewbacca growl. There were so many ways that you could have handled it, but you just said, “hey man, don’t growl at me!” and moved on with rehearsal. I’m probably the only person who remembers this happened,…

To accept a challenge is daunting, whereas to seek out a challenge is rewarding. This realization came to me during my middle school band experience and has followed me to this day. No longer do I wonder why the avid runner enters a marathon or why the science whiz takes incredibly difficult chemistry courses. Although these tasks seem mountainous to others, those who enjoy these activities run toward the challenge with open arms. My challenge came to me in the form of a clarinet, some sheet music, and the glory that was being first chair, a position of distinction among the other clarinetists in the band that was designated to the most skilled player.…

It was a Thursday, I walked in the band room being greeted by all my band members that were all excited, I felt the opposite. I was full of anxiety, very spaced out to the world; myself being a senior, being my last year of marching band meant I was high candidate on being chosen to be a band leader. My past drum major look at me and told me “relax, breathe, you will be fine and good luck”. As my ex-drum major step on the podium, she explain how it was one of the best experiences of her life leading this band and it was a great pleasure. I sat there, thinking…breathe, and I turned to the clock.…

Having minimal background of classical music before starting this class made me a little nervous for attending our first concert. I wasn't sure what to expect. I’ve never really listened to much classical music besides the group, The Piano Guys. However, while attending The Temple for the pipe organ demonstration recitals I was mesmerized. First, I am not from the Kansas City area so I had never heard or saw this Temple before…
