Personal Narrative: My First Year Working At Turkey Hill Ranch

Improved Essays
I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

An internship is normally a work task a student completes after a series of classes to gain a degree in a particular field they think they’ll love, whether they still love it after they’ve completed that journey is based upon a multitude of criteria. Luckily, I have found that I quite enjoy fashion and working in retail throughout this internship at Dress Barn. Occasionally students find that what they thought they were getting into, is actually completely different than what they expected. Especially when reading about a profession on paper versus seeing it up closer in real life. When I started college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study or achieve with my life.…

Cicadas Camp Cornhusker, ‘the happiest place on earth’ as many people call it, including myself. There is so much to see and do, hiking in the thick bristled woods to hear the water crash at Angel's or Devil’s falls, to canoe at Lake Abel where the breeze gives a sense of freedom, and to be around a crazy group of staff members. As staff members, we do a lot of crazy things, for starters we work at a boy scout camp. But whether it’s staying up late to hug a windmill off of camp property of even trying the food combinations that the kitchen has us try, everything is a blast. For me though, my favorite thing to do was to pull pranks on the other guys, especially when it involves the seventeenth anniversary of cicadas.…

For the past 6 years of my life, I have gone to a sleepaway camp in Burnet, TX called Camp Longhorn Inks Lake. There are many enjoyable traditions at Camp Longhorn. Some of the\ traditions are the mile swim, campfire lighter, early bird, fun day, frog girl day, and marine/marina mud. Although these traditions are great fun, but none of them can compare to the most memorable tradition at Camp Longhorn, Church Mountain. I never expected working at a fast food restaurant to change my life. When I first applied online, I had a preconceived notion about what my experience at Chipotle would be like. I expected the fast food restaurant to be like any other I had heard about. I would go to work, make food, then go home. In direct contrast, the environment at Chipotle is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, not even in a Christian school.…
