Volleyball Season Summer tryouts were on an extremely hot and balmy August day. Many people did not enjoy these long dragged on tryouts, but I was really excited for my first year of high school volleyball as a freshman. Throughout the summer I spent hours upon hours working on volleyball. I went into tryouts not expecting to be put on a higher team. Little did I know what was in store for me this season. As I walked into my first tryout ever, I did not know many of the older girls there. I felt like a fish out of water standing there surrounded by upperclassmen. I knew I had to prove to everyone that I was put on that team for a reason. Everyone of them were professionals on the court and I was just a beginner. They had so much more experience than I did. The tryouts lasted three days again. This time it was in an extremely hot and humid gymnasium. It was so hot and humid that when I dove for a ball, I stuck to the floor like a housefly sticks to flypaper. Normally, I slide across the gym floor like a hockey puck slides across the ice. I put in a hundred percent effort at tryouts and when we were done, my shirt was soaked in sweat.…
