Personal Narrative: My First Year At Saint Benedict's Prep

Improved Essays
My first year at Saint Benedict’s Prep was an experience I would never forget because of the things I did during my freshman year. I had to get used to the fact that I started school in July rather than September. While all my other friends were enjoying their vacation, I was in school learning about the traditions of the school.
I came into Saint Benedict’s as a kid who didn't care much about school, and just joined because of the soccer program. My first week was an experience that one doesn't see in a regular high school. I had to sleep the first week in the school gym with 100 other students. During that time, I was singing the school songs, taking 2 classes, and repeating the for the next 5 days.

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

For the first five years of elementary school, I attended the small school located at the back of our church’s property. Enrollment ranged from about 10-15 students in 1st through 8th grade. The last three years of my grade school experience were spent attending Lodi Seventh-day Adventist Elementary. This school went from kindergarten to 8th grade and fed into Lodi Academy, so in all, kindergarten through 12th grade! I came from a small, two-room school, and seeing as I was not very accustomed to being with such a large body of students, suddenly becoming immersed in a class with more students than that of my entire old school was definitely intriguing!…

St. Cecilia gives many opportunities to do so.…

I remember the day before my first day at Pennoyer. I was sad and happy, scared, and mad all at the same time. I remember crying and yelling at my parents to not make me go to school that next day. The next day I showed up at school and remember walking into Mrs. Michael’s third grade class and seeing all of these new people that I would be friends with for years to come. At this school is where I made new friends, great memories, and where I grew up from a little kid into a young adult.…

Going through my memories of St. Mary’s is a large task. My first memory is of the first day of preschool. It’s a bit fuzzy, but I didn’t have glasses yet, so that accounts for the vague shapes and voices. However, one thing was clear, from the moment I arrived to the moment I left, I loved St. Mary’s. From kindergarten with Mrs. Casey to TAG reading with Ms. Casey, it has been a wild but fulfilling ride to high school.…

A couple years ago when I was in 1st grade I started at a new school in Pasadena, California. The school was called Garvanza elementary. I liked living in California and having new friends at this school, but about half the school year my mother wanted to move to Arizona with my brother, sister and I. We didn't want to leave, but my mother said that she already got a house and a job over there. Even after we kept telling her that we didn't want to leave she made us pack everything and put it in the truck.…

“What we have to do... is to find a way to celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our communities,” noted by Hilary Clinton. Recently, I took the time to observe all of the different diversity happening at Marist College. After observing students and how they interacted, one particular group of individuals struck my eyes. In my opinion, the most diverse group of individuals on campus are international students. Not only do they create diversity on campus, but they also make Marist College an incredible and globally recognized school.…

In the beginning of freshman year, I attended a school that was on the other side of town. I was nervous to start school, simply because I didn’t know anybody that was going there from my previous school. I had the mentality to get good grades, try out for the soccer team, and make new friends. My one focus was to walk across that stage to get that one and only diploma. I met someone named Alexis and we planned to try out for the team together.…

I was an 8th grader at St. Martin's Episcopal school and had thoroughly enjoyed the last four years of my life. The teachers were wonderful, the academics were strenuous but rewarding, and most of all my group of friends were almost unbeatable. Although we spent most of our time in the Dean's office sitting on the brown leather couch decorated with a variety of candy pillows, we truly were a good group of guys and were not looking to our final years together. Sure, we kept telling ourselves we would all get into the same private high school but deep down we knew our days left together were limited. I had done well in school over the past couple years and was not too worried about getting into a good High school.…
