Personal Narrative: My First Year At Cedar Shoals

Improved Essays
My first year at Cedar Shoals was unforgettable, I had no idea what to expect. Most people consider going into highschool as one of the big parts of your life. I was hesitant for the change since I was going into a much bigger school and meeting new people. I went into freshman year with a positive mindset, making new friends & knowing it was going to be MY year. I had faced many successes academically and faced a few failures that I am going to improve my sophomore year so I don’t make the same mistakes. My main priority going into freshman year was to excel in all my classes since I wanted to get off to a good start. Being a sophomore now, I consider myself to be proud to be a part of the Cedar Shoals community.

From growing up in a military family, I have become very resilient and I adapt really well to change. With my surroundings changing all the time, I have to be able to quickly adapt to my new setting and find ways to fit in as quickly as possible. I have been to about twelve different schools so far, and I have lived in about eight different houses. When I live on a military base, change is constant, even if it is not my own family experiencing the orders to move that year. The houses around me fill and empty all the time with new people, and some of the military dominant schools I have been to have the same problem.…

A mixture of mud, blood, and dust coated our bodies; to my left and right, cannonballs flew at us. Though we knew not how or when we were going to succeed, we just knew that we had to succeed. Though I love everything that I do, My favorite thing I do is work up at an all boys camp in Rhinelander, Wisconsin called Camp Deerhorn. Every year that I travel up to camp, I look forward to meeting new people and forming some new friendships. In my room I have a plaque that reads “Camp Deerhorn Creed.” It was written by the founder of Camp Deerhorn, Dr. Don C. Broadbridge in 1930, and it lists out 13 of the most essential and important ways on how to act in order to become a gentleman. My two personal favorites are “Too spread sunshine and good cheer, just for the fun of it.”…

At first I thought that it was like any normal 3- day camping trip, which made me extremely excited since I enjoy camping very much. Once I got there, I realized that it was a different type of camp. I was nervous and scared because I’m not very good at socializing. The reason I’m writing this is because I learned so much about being open minded, accepting, and kind to other people and new experiences.…
