She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…

It was a rainy morning in Seattle, and I wore my Army dress uniform. Stepping off the bus, I ran 100 yards to the entrance of the Airport. After I purchased my ticket and checked my bags, I headed to the bar. It was the time of the winter equinox, and I was headed home with my discharge in my duffle bag. I suppose I should have worn my civilian clothes, but I had been stateside six months, and the comradeship I experienced in Vietnam had yet to loosen its grip on me.…

Surviving the Vietnam War In the book Road of 10,00 Pains, Chapter 16, by Otto J. Lehrack, there is first hand experiences from different marines fighting the Vietnam War. As I read chapter 16, I learned that the Vietnam War was very gruesome. The U.S marines had to fight very hard everyday to stay alive, even though they were fighting a war they did not seem as necessary. During this battle the American soldiers used many tactics to survive.…

Bullets whizzed past my head as I ran away from the action towards a nearby spring to fill my now empty pitcher. I had to make countless trips back and forth from the battlefield to this little safe haven. I crouched near the water's edge and filled up the pitcher. I peeked through the reeds and watched as men fired cannons. I took a deep breath and stood up.…

Hello, I am Jeremy Romondo and here is the story of my death. The date is January 7th, 1945. I am fighting the genocidal maniacs also known as the Nazis. My battalion leaped under the cover of the foliage to stay out of the vision of the destructive vehicle.…

This inability isn’t surprising. Matt had been born and bred in apathy and continued the tradition. He was from a highway town that stayed alive on fast food joints and motels for motorists passing through to get to places more interesting. These towns cling to life on the interstate and they bloom and wilt on the whim of the Federal Highway Commission. In the cars zooming by, his hometown invoked a Midwestern nostalgia of simpler times and better people but on any closer examination these little towns are mostly welfare checks and crumbling brick.…

After reading the first four sections of “The Vietnam Wars” I can infer that the Vietnamese are extremely persistent people that are not likely to surrender. I can infer this because of several pieces of information, the first being the actions of the Vietnamese people during the 1945-1954 battles against the French and Americans. During this war, the Vietnamese had significantly less technology than their current opponents, but instead of surrendering to the French they made use of their land and defeated the anti-communists. The second piece of information that helped me infer this is simply the dates of the war against the Chinese. If Vietnam was not extremely persistent and kept hope for independence, the constant battle against the Chinese…
