My First Trip In My Life

My dad was born in Connecticut and eventually moved to California after college. It was in California that he met my mom and started a new life. However, he still stayed connected with his relatives on the east coast. When I was a toddler I experienced my first trip to Connecticut. With no memory of how it went, I can only imagine that my grandparents and other relatives in Connecticut were pleased to see us. It was also at this time that I first met the relatives that would become a part of me through my visits to them. Once again, me and my family went back to the east coast. They were also constituted with spending half my time there at a summer camp called Camp Hi-Rock. I had so many great experiences there that will always be in the back of my head whether it was making friends, sailing across the lake, or even learning to water ski with one ski. It brought out my love for the outdoors and took me out of the hardships of life without gluing me to a television. One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…
