During track season, my seventh grade basketball coach thought that it would be a great idea if I joined the track team and competed in the 400 meter event. I attended every practice and I was motivated and convinced that I could win first place.

In the third lap, as I was approaching the finish line, I noticed that everyone was just waiting on me to cross and I felt ashamed and embarrassed and I did not complete the 400 meters. Instead, I ran off the track and into the bathroom to cry.
On the second track meet, I was once again the last girl and as I was completing the second lap, I heard some girls say “Look

I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…

It was the day of the Larz Anderson Invitational 2014. After the surprisingly normal day of school, the Park School cross country team headed towards Larz Anderson. We walked outside as a team and the air was dry and cold. The strong breeze sent chills down my spine and swept the orange leaves from side to side. Upon arrival, I saw the vast number of my competitors.…

Have you ever felt that all the hardwork you have put into something has been worthless? This is the exact feeling I felt when I lost my varsity spot for the 138 pound weight class on my high school wrestling team. The previous year as a freshman I had been very successful making it to state and helping my team win the state championship, but I was a 106 pounder, the lowest weight class. Over the summer I gained nearly thirty pounds, and I was now wrestling at the 138 pound weight class. I wasn't use to the weight.…

Failure is all around us, for most of us it is a daily occurrence even with little things like failing a quiz or missing a shot in your game. I used to let my failures define me and who I have been especially when I failed to make the Varsity soccer team my junior year. I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity.…

In my life time I always been successful and unsuccessful but, one event that I consider to be very unsuccessful was when I didn’t push myself as much as I should have in Cross Country varsity race. I consider this to be one of my biggest failures because I didn’t force myself to keep up with the guy in front of me nor, did I force myself to keep up even with my teammates. I suffered in that race and questioned myself “Why am I doing this? Why do I even run?” I was morally and mentally crushed during this race and it just made me feel even worse when I found out during the race that I was in last place in the entire time I was racing.…

Joining the track team during my freshman year of high school wasn't something that i thought of that deeply. I joined it to have something to do with my extra time after school so i initially wasn't very serious about it. After coming out for the first week and going through the beginning regimen for people with no experience in the sport it was very difficult. Looking back at it now I seriously question why i didn't quit, even though I remember thinking about quitting a few times, though I'm grateful to my past self for not giving up. The mindset to not give up came in handy during many of my races where even though i felt tired and my body hurt i was still able to push myself to not let others pass…
