Personal Narrative: My First Time Driving

First Time Driving It was a beautiful, wonderful, and eventful Sunday morning when I first went driving. I told my mom that I was ready to learn and she agreed. We first sat in the car and went over where all the controls were. I started to practice turning the car on and off when my mom told me I couldn't use both my feet. I switched my feet and started to practice the correct way. Then, my mom and I switched places in the car and she backed the car out of the driveway. Finally, we switched back and I started to drive. While driving, I started to feel the sweat on my hands, to hear my heart pound, and to see my mom tremble. I drove to Hayshire, which was an elementary school nearby. I decided to practice in the parking lot. My mom first told me to just practice making right and left turns around the parking lot until I got the hang of it. Once I got the hang of it, my mom took out the booklet that had driving tips in it. I had to practice my accelerating, braking, and turning before I could get anywhere near a curb. After about twenty minutes, my mom said I could start to park near the curb. The book said I wanted to get within 6-12 inches of the curb itself. I continuously pulled the car in and out of the same parking spot for ten minutes before I got within the six inch mark. …show more content…
Next, my mom told me we would go into neighborhoods and practice driving around cars. With that, I left for one of the nearby neighborhoods and started driving. Initially, I would drive close to the cars parked on the side of the road until my mom told me to start driving in the middle of the road. This quick fix made it much easier for me to make turns. Then, I decided to practice my braking and accelerating skills whenever I stopped at a stop sign. After practicing for an hour, I believed I was finished for the
