Personal Narrative: My First Tattoos

When asked to embark on an “adventure,” I had a variety of things to consider to make the most of the experience. I wanted to do something that would push my own limitations and teach me about myself and the world. I wanted to experience a community of people different from those I usually associate with. I chose something that would push my pain threshold, and force me to think about the things that are most important to me. I chose to get my first tattoo. It is something I have been wanting to do for a long time now, and with my tax return in the bank and an adventure based assignment, what better time? I finally took the plunge outside of my comfort zone and just do it. The first step to getting a tattoo is deciding what you want. It will be there for the rest of my life and that adds a lot of weight to the situation. It needed to have meaning to me, and it needed to be something I knew would stick with me forever. I’ve always had a list of tattoos I’ve wanted but when the time actually came to pick one it became so much harder. I really had to chip away at a mountain of ideas. I also had to take into consideration that it was my first and that it would be a walk in appointment so it should be relatively small and simple. I will not go to the store by myself, I never drive anywhere alone, and I never make my own phone calls. This is the biggest reason why I had been putting my first tattoo off for so long. The first step was making a phone call to check for availability, and then driving myself there. These things already seem so simple but they are things that I avoid at all costs. Already, I was out of my comfort zone. Luckily, I had a friend who was able to come with me to the actual procedure. I finished up my shift and we met up at my house. We then went to lunch at Wendy’s and headed straight to the tattoo
