Personal Narrative: My First Surgery That Changed My Life

When Dr. Neilson looked with an ultrasound, he saw nothing, but when he did a blood test, that results came back double what they were, which meant it was either twins or no good. The next day he looked again and there were two tiny sacs. After this news of twins my mom had some complications, and when they went back and looked again there was just one tiny little sac, and that was me. Once they found out that I was a girl, they also found a cyst that appeared to be in one of my kidneys that was swelling it and making it become twice it’s size.
After months of worry, I was finally born, and that’s when they found that the cyst was actually in my bladder, but my left kidney was completely non-functioning. Infections were a big issue and so they placed me on antibiotics for the first few years of my life. After my first surgery, at only 6 months old, my infections started becoming more frequent, despite the antibiotics. This was when the surgeon who did my first surgery told my parents of a much bigger option, that would hopefully correct everything. So on July 27, 2001, at only 18 months old, I was in an OKC hospital in the middle of a 6 hour surgery. In the end, after many prayers, and worried thoughts, I came out of surgery and was already full of life. From then on my earliest memories include my family. We’ve

He lived out in Kellyville and we actually lived with him for a year or so when I was younger. The thing I remember most about his house was the scorpions EVERYWHERE, we weren’t allowed outside without shoes on, and sometimes they would even find their way into the house. Once my mom even stepped on one and it was the most terrifying thing to watch. He had this doll house that I would always play with and in it there was a little piano that played Fur Elise. There were many things I loved about his house but that was a main one, along with the glass tea set I am still shocked they let me play

Before I went to the hospital my family and friends tried really hard to keep me calm before this big endeavor that would change my life forever. One of the things they did was talk to my pastor at my church about blessing me before the surgery. My priest blessed me by saying in a holy voice, “Please God protect Emily from all harm during this surgery, and please be with her during this hard experience.” Another wonderful gesture my family did for me was put on a birthday party, since my birthday was only a couple days after my surgery when I would be still recovering. After the celebration came to a close I went upstairs to go to bed, but before I fell asleep my mother came into the room with a gloomy look on her face.…

A human's heart will pump approximately four thousand gallons of blood each day (Fremgen and Frucht). This fact alone goes to show that human bodies are similar to machines. That being said all machines need tuning up from time to time as well as fixing when something is wrong. Medical professions are the mechanics for people. However, the medical field offers more opportunities and medical career avenues than being a mechanic.…

They call them “Tap-taps,” the brightly painted open back trucks that transport passengers through the dusty streets of Haiti. A traveler taps the side of the vehicle to board, pays, rides and then taps to jump off at a desired destination. For one particular man who sat with his face covered by a towel, that destination was the Diegue clinic in Port-au-Prince. All I knew from intake was that this patient was here for a foot issue. I noticed the adult sitting uncomfortably, a towel wrapping his foot, as his eyes scanned around the room.…

" Good Morning Baiju, do you know where you are?" a soft voice asked in an calming tone. It was the nurse from before the procedure, which triggered my memory.…

Adeline Louisa Vargas is the apple of my eye and one of the greatest things to ever happen to me; although, her arrival here was anything but pleasant and easy going. From the excruciating back labor that started at home, to the scare she gave before being freed from my womb, it was more frightening than a horror movie. The whole process took more than a day but each second felt like a lifetime. Thankfully, I had the mountain-like support of my husband the nursing team to get me through.…

Not me I chose Tyler, Tx and the stress of taking care of my mom, sister and helping with my 15 month old nephew. When you're nineteen years old and have all this responsibility to make money, go to school full time and still try to live a young adult life is unfortunate. How would you like it if one day your life got turned upside down by one decision you made, or you felt you were forced to make ? I had the difficult decision of coming to Tyler, Tx with my mom or going to Issaquah, WA with my dad. Having to chose between two parents and two different lives is a giant stress ball with no relief.…

I had surgery on the eleventh of November, to repair my ACL and meniscus both ligaments in my right knee. A freak accident it was none the less, ruining my last chance to play high school football or any high school sports for that matter. I was highly looked upon to help lead my team to another divisional championship. Without me there to be a leader and showing my support at practice, I felt like it affected the team negatively. As I constantly gave them hope of a return they neglected the fact that with or without me they were always good and just needed to stick together and compete.…

While the pain is fresh and the glory is sweet, I decided to write this article about my experience running the marathon and how in my opinion, it correlates metaphorically of how I started and my diurnal responsibility as a Surgical Technologist. Less than a month ago; on March 19, I ran my 3rd marathon. It is becoming a yearly affair for me and my wife to ran the Los Angeles Marathon that we always look forward for the next year. It started 3 years ago when my wife signed me up for my first marathon (she did her first the year prior) one month before the event.…

The Nelsens’ model which is said to be closer to the Black Church may be called the “dialectic model” of the Black Church. Black Churches are institutions that are involved in a consent series of dialectic tensions. The dialectic holds opposites in tension, constantly shifting between the polarities in historical time. There is no Hegelian synthesis or ultimate resolution of the dialectic. The task of the social analyst is to examine the social conditions of any black church, including the situation of its leadership and membership, to determine what its major orientation is in relation to any pair of dialectical polarities.…

At seven years of age my life changed forever when my parents enrolled me in a gymnastics class. Since then I spend most of my life inside a smelly, chalked filled gym. In September 2014, I was sent to an orthopedic hip specialist due to a lesion that was found in my left hip. The lesion was found when I had an x-ray taken of my lower back in an effort to understand why I had shin splints. My hip had been hurting months prior…

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. It was a gloomy day from it being so cloudy and cold. I was talked into walking home during school by friends whom, at the time didn't care about school as much as I did, cared nothing of school. I didn’t like it, but then again I started not to care either.…
