I knew the Southern coach would be at this meet watching so this was my last chance to possibly get an offer. However, I had been ignoring an annoying pain in my shoulder for the past month. The pain was finally so bad that after morning practice I couldn’t carry my book bag at school and in the evening I could barely raise my arms to change out of my suit. I went to the doctor, he told me I had tendinitis and burcitis in my shoulder. He advised me to lay off practice for a week and to begin physical therapy. …show more content…
I went to zones and swam my first race. Half way through my shoulders were on fire and I added 8 seconds to my best time. My recurrent shoulder dislocations were a constant battle, but a battle in which I’d always won. After a dislocation, all it took was a couple weeks of physical therapy before I could return to the baseball field. Although, after my fifth dislocation I ended up sitting in the hospital awaiting the results of my MRI with an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. My surgeon soon returned with news that my injury required a season-ending surgery. If I could go to the Olympics and compete in any sport it would be swim because I am currently on my high school swim team and I feel like it is such an amazing and challenging sport. I have gained a great admiration for all of those who choose to do swim professionally because many may consider it an easy sport but in reality, so much dedication has to go into lowering times and sacrifices like enduring pruned skin, dead hair, and smelling like chlorine must be made. Despite many of the disadvantages swimming for me has served as a great stress reliever and motivator.…

Leading up to my junior year baseball season, the team and myself had very high expectations. We won the first game of the season; I pitched and played shortstop and had a triple and a single. During the next game, I came up to bat in the third inning and popped up a pitch to the first basemen. In midst of my swing, I felt a sharp pain in my left shoulder, thus causing me to kneel on the ground in pain. I was substituted out the next inning, then sat on the bench holding ice on my shoulder.…

From then on that year it seemed as though my arm was healthy and I was eager to move onto the varsity level the following year, that was until in January of this past year I threw a full court basketball pass and instantly felt pain in my shoulder. Two weeks went by and I still was unable to throw and I went to get it checked out. Originally the first thought was potentially a torn labrum (a potentially career ending injury) but luckily after further tests, and check ups it was determined that the pain was just a result of built up inflammation.…
