Personal Narrative: My First Placement

Improved Essays
On the last day of my first placement, I felt for the first time what it is like to get through to a child with some difficulties paying attention and completing tasks, I saw what it was like to feel the accomplishments of being a teacher.
For my first placement I went to Valley View Elementary, and was placed in a first grade class with Ms. Stehle and a fourth grade class with Mrs. Testolin. I loved both classes I was placed in because they were both very welcoming. In my first grade class there was twenty-two students with varying learning styles, the class was very ethnically diverse and included a few higher energy students that may of needed a little extra help. Not only did I help with math, I read aloud to the fourth graders and mapped out the story as they do every so often. While I was in the first grade class it was also during math time. I worked with them to learn how to add and subtract, also I answered any question they had. A few things I picked up from both of the teachers that had me in their rooms was the way the fourth grade teacher would allow her kids to talk about recess as they came back from lunch as a class, this allowed them to get their stories out and lessen the interruptions throughout the rest of the day. My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
