Personal Narrative: My First Outside Listening

For my first outside listening experience, I decided to address one of the tutorials I went to in Upward Bound at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I attended this tutorial on Tuesday, September 26th. Our councilor is Brandelyn Hall. That following evening she asked some of the students, who were seniors, to stay after for the workshop about financial aid. Generally, our tutorials are always held in Merrick Hall. The gathering would be considered a medium sized crowd. The speech was given to a supportive audience, based on the importance of the message and how it relates to the audience. Ms. Hall’s speech influenced me to finally take action on doing my financial aid. I really enjoy listening to her talk because she uses appropriate and intelligent vocabulary. I felt as though everything she says is trustworthy and reliable. …show more content…
Hall’s speech was a combination of two speech elements, which were informative and persuasive. The speech was informative because it was based upon facts and touched on a serious matter. As well as, persuasive because some individuals needed the extra push to do their financial aid. While she gave her speech, she used a PowerPoint to help present her visual aids and any additional information. The type of visual aids were charts, statistics, and pictures. The visual aids were effective in supporting her main ideas about financial aid. It added to her credibility because she explained the importance of each one and how it related to the

Feeling like an outsider is something I do on a daily. Ever since I could remember I had always felt like I didn’t belong. Whether that was because I was taller than most kids my age, or I was always at least two years younger than all of my classmates.
