Personal Narrative: My First Metal Machining Class

Improved Essays
When I began my first metals machining class in 2014, I would have never had the notion that it would mean as much to me as it does today. I did not actually think that I would want to make it my life-long career. I was uncertain that machining was the right path for me until I began my internship at Council Tool Company. The internship swayed my opinion of assembly workers or even an average labor job. I soon come to the realization that a heated and air conditioned workplace was for me.
My first task was something straightforward, something that I could not possibly mess up, put five modified hitch pins on one pin, six in all. After doing that for while, I packed bags for the MaxAx. I put a MaxAx brochure and two sets of six pins in the bags. Later, they will be filled with all the different parts that make up the MaxAx. I received an abundance of packing experience, I helped with large orders

I did not actually enjoy it, or the difficulties of it, but I still would have chose it again. It taught me lessons that I needed to know before I graduated high school. I had the impression that I might want to work at a place similar to that, and I was mistaken. I was not planning on going to college before I started my internship, and it definitely changed my mind. I want to be in an air controlled environment. I want to attend to college now that I have experienced the real world of working. Hindsight is 20/20 and if I could go back, I would have brought it to attention that I wanted to get more experience with other departments throughout the company rather than letting them assign me the same boring task. All in all, my internship is a memory that I will never forget and most certainly a great ending to my senior year in high school. Majority of people my age, have not and will not receive the experience that I did at Council Tool Company, and for that I am

How would you answer if somebody asked you, “would you rather have some shiny metal or this dirty piece of paper?” The shiny metal is probably more valuable, and it looks better. Anyway, a good looking object increases its value, right? I was walking down a street in Central Park, with trees on surrounding me and people scurrying around me. A street artist was calling out, “are there any young children out there?”…

The things that factory work has taught me--how lucky I am to get an education, how to work hard, how easy it is to lose that work once you have it--are by no means earth-shattering. Everyone has to come to grips with them at some point. How and when I learned these lessons, however, has inspired me to make the most of my college years before I enter the real world for good. Until then, the summer months I spend in the factories will be long, tiring and every bit as educational as a French-lit…

To be successful, to be intelligent, to be a change. Those are the three main reasons I want to attend college. In this day and age, many jobs require a higher level of education to be able to work. Those jobs that don’t require a degree, depend upon more manual labor, backbreaking work and lower wages. I would rather remain in school longer, expand my knowledge, and get a career on everything I have learned, than go straight to the work field to earn less and do more.…

College is a place to advance education, and I would utilize that education to get to the next level of helping a greater population in the future. My primary study is a Biology degree. After a long, well-thought out process, my deepest desire is to attend medical school and work as a Surgeon. Even though the road is a long process, the persistency to start modifying and making a difference to affect my community is being done now and will be during…

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

She and I If someone asks me, what kind of person, I am in Elementry school, I will tell them, I used to be the worst students in the whole school. Whenever I go to school, I fight with other people and hurt them. All the teachers know me because they all stop me from bullying other students. Two times I was badly injured that I had to go to the hospital for surgery.…

Semester of Learning Experiences People most always say, “ Learn from you mistakes and achievements.” I would definitely conclude that is exactly what I’ve done this first semester of college. There are many times that I wanted to simply curl into a ball because of all the newness and unfamiliarity. At times I found myself doing just that, but realizing that I needed to toughen up burst from my comfort zone. I can say sleeping through your classes never the best choice, not going just because you find it too easy, missing a class just to write a paper for another class, and differentiating between minimal and highly important status of choices.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

A week had gone by. Two weeks, then three. Finally a month had gone by and we were ready to turn in our finished video. It was the largest video project the five of us had undertaken and it had taken us the better part of four weeks to finish, but we finally crossed the finish line with a lengthy five minute short film. This is the feeling I had after finally finishing the short film that a small group of five of us were tasked with creating.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

During the summer semester of 2016 I had the opportunity to intern with Cathy Ewing Event Consulting. CEEC is located in Cathy’s in home office in Belton, and their primary focus is to help their clients achieve an experience hyper-tailored service to their specific needs. Cathy is a Certified meeting planner (CMP) prior to working with her I had never heard of the title, but the more I learned about it the more I learned it is a great area for people with communication studies degrees that like details. Cathy explained all the steps it took her to become a CMP in case I ever found myself interested. In order to become a CMP you must have years of professional event experience and continued education before being able to sit for the rigorous…

In addition to what I feel is important in a job and the job of my dreams and why it is. Welding was developed during the bronze and iron ages, and is still being perfected today.…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…

The true definition of an engineer changes depending on the person defining it. For an infant in the depths of the Saharan desert, an engineer is the person who fixes the pump that brings water to her village; for a teenager hooked on video games, an engineer is the messiah who reboots his virus-stricken computer right back up to normal. Amongst this variety of definitions, however, lies a singular fundamental linking factor: an engineer is someone who makes a positive impact in your life by creating innovative devices using the resources at hand. What makes an engineer great, and what sets the exceptional engineers apart from the ordinary ones, is their heightened ability to effectively gauge the needs of society at a given period in time,…
