Personal Narrative: My First Marking Period In High School

Improved Essays
The first marking period was very interesting. I was met with many obstacles and changes that I did not think we’re going to be there for my first marking period in high school. Some of those obstacles were the weekly test that were given, this is especially interesting since back in Middle School we were not met with such stress when it came to learning. Another obstacle that I have witness and overcame was the homework, especially in my AP classes alongside my Honor class. I was also able to overcome the challenge presented to me by being in a new building and barley knowing anyone.

One of my most difficult challenges endured by me throughout MP1 was the huge stress of test taking weekly. At first it was in this English 1 Honors class were I met myself with the most stress. Having to study for what it seemed like weekly vocabulary quizzes was very stressful to me because on top of that you had

At first this did not seem like a thing that would be weekly but we soon found out that it was. In World History we have these things called S.P.I.C.E charts were we gather information from a chapter in less than a week, this can be very stressful since most chapters have 20+ pages often times having to read around 10 pages a day and take notes according to what is being asked for. This for me was very stressful due to the fact that if you miss one days’ worth of reading the next day you’ll have to read twice as much. The one way I really seemed to get my head around and somewhat overcome this stressful thing in my life was by cutting out some stuff afterschool. It may not seem like the best thing to do but it was the only thing that gave me that extra time to study and write. Staying out home when I could be out doing things with my friends sounded more fun but at the same time I had to think about my future, that is why I rarely go out during week

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. Last semester was definitely the hardest for me. I have two challenging research papers toward the end of the semester. I find it hard because I did not know what to write about and which assignments I should start on first. I manage to overcome this challenge by narrowing the topics and start on the paper that was closest to deadline. My stress level was at 10 because I skip meals and stayed up all night long to finish my papers.…

It wasn’t until I was entering my freshman year of high school that a challenge became almost immediately life changing. Feeling as though I was climbing a mountain; not knowing if I was going to successfully make it to the top. Feeling like I was crossing a road; unknowing of what was going to be on the other side. Never had anything been so scary or so difficult to execute. I walked in to the school.…

As I went to my first day of school in a new city I was nervous, I didn't know if I was going to make any new friends, if I was going to fit in. The first day began and I immediately met Randy and Byanca, little did I know at the time that they would be my friends for all of my school career. Time went by and so did the grade levels, I would always struggle with one subject and thrive in another. During my elementary and middle school years I would struggle in language arts and history, but I would thrive in mathematics mainly because I love numbers.…

It was a Thursday night, on my first week of kindergarten. I hadn’t made many friends because I was so use to playing with my sister, that I wasn’t sure if I knew how to make friends. I wasn’t shy when I was around my immediate family, but if you would put me in a room with people that I didn’t know. Well, I wouldn’t say a word. I would be so quiet that I would just sit there and you could forget that I was in the room.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I believe that my biggest challenge was my lack of humility and modesty. Coming into Xavier High School, I was an Ignatian Scholar, taking all honors classes and being seen as the best of the best among the freshmen class. Through the new pressures and more difficult work, my experiences of high school became rather overwhelming to me, and I began to receive the lowest grades I had ever received. Although I was offered a tutor, I did not believe that I needed one since I never needed help in any time in my schoolings. Ever since grammar school, I was used to being the smartest person in the room and ecstatic to be the first person in my family to finish high school and go to college.…

When I moved to Springfield Township from Cheltenham Township, I really despised the sudden change. I disliked almost everything about it but what I did not know at the time is that by my senior year I would eventually love this school as I molded it into a place that I wanted to be at. During the end of my freshmen year, I found myself with a new view of how I was going to cultivate at Springfield Township High School. After meeting a valuable presence that will have forever leave an imprint on me, I decided that I needed to get involved with school to become apart of it. From that moment, the following year, I signed up for the Academic Team meanwhile continuing the Word Language Club which I had joined Freshmen Year and Girl Scouts which…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

Assessing the SAT Test The main test I recall taking is the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), no known as just the SAT, the test that a majority of high school students take in order to gain entrance into college. In fact, 1.7 million students took the SAT in 2015 with 41.9% meeting the college and career readiness benchmark (College Board, 2015). I remember the anxiety of underperforming and not getting into the school of my choice, the dreadful feeling that my future hung by one number.…
