Personal Narrative-My First Lacrosse Player

Ever since I was old enough to walk I have been playing lacrosse. My whole family is heavily involved with the sport. My dad played throughout high school and college and has coached for 10 years. My older brother and younger sister, also play. Lacrosse is one of my greatest passions. I didn't realize this until one hot summer day. I was 11 at the time. A new select team had just started and I was determined to join. The tryouts were challenging but I made the team. The team was called the 757 Ironclads. The team was composed of the best players in Hampton Roads. Practice started and it was as tough as nails. I loved the new found advanced pace. We practiced long and hard and before I knew it, it was time for summer tournaments. Our first tournament was the Richmond …show more content…
I took the face off. I waited in position for the referee to blow the whistle. “Tweet” I clamped the ball as fast as lightning. I ran past my man and went straight for the goal. I decided to put everything I had into this one last shot and try to end the game. I didn't care if I got hurt, I just wanted to win. A sea of red jerseys surround me. I shot as hard as I could and the ball bounced in. We were victorious! My teammates gathered around me and cheered. It was one of the first times in my life that I had really came through for my team. My ankle throbbed, but it was worth it. This whole experience taught me 3 things. The power of leadership, the power of teamwork and self sacrifice for the greater good. My coaches strong words of encouragement taught me the power of leadership. My team pulling together and working in unity taught me the power of teamwork. When I scored for my team and sacrificed taking a big hit, I taught myself that sacrifice for the greater good is important in being part of a team. These three lessons have had a big effect on the person I am today. These lessons have also shaped me into a better player and
