It was summer of eighth grade and I would be transitioning into high school in a couple months. My friends portrayed summers as a time to relax and hangout with everyone on the lake. But my mom had another idea for me that summer, she was going to ship me to my aunt's house in Fenton, Michigan. Where I would work at a daycare for a couple of weeks to earn that first job experience.
The interview process was intimidating. My aunts friend is the owner of the daycare and is in charge of hiring, scheduling, overseeing the children and all of the professional and legal obligations. He informed me that my interview

The school kids were typically more energized and a little harder to keep track of. As for the infants, they were quiet but also required more attention. The school kids ranged from twenty to thirty kids a day, and in the infant sections about 5 to 10 a day. In the morning, the parents would sign their children in and then proceed to their everyday jobs. Some kids were so excited to be around others their age and others would cry and beg their parents to stay. When that occurred, we would comfort the child and distract them with an activity. Around eleven thirty, it would be lunch time. All the children would run in from playing outside to collect their lunch boxes and immediately start eating. Once everyone was done eating we would gather around for a nap time. This was probably the most difficult part of the day. Each child gets a cot, blanket and pillow for nap time. About half of the kids didn’t sleep and just layed there. Which was distracting to the other children who were tired. Nap time lasted about an hour long and was ideal for all the kids. When they would wake up it would be snack time. The children who took a nap were more cooperative and content. Many children of today start their day off with going to school and learning, however children didn’t always start off their day like this. Many children during the 1900s usually started off their day by working in factories, mills, mines or farms until it was late at night even though they were tired to the bone. They usually faced a day like this because they needed to support their families income, but were usually underpaid. Business owners ignored laws that prohibited child labor by continuing to hire children to pay lower wage and work long hours. People took notice of this which caused the start of the National Child Labor Committee, who refused to compromise with the way businesses were treating children.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…
