Personal Narrative: My First Ippe's Rotation

Improved Essays
My second IPPE’s rotation was actually the first one for the semester since I did the Kroger health screening for my first IPPE’s rotation. Doctor Depen, my preceptor was very welcoming and he introduced me to the other associates as their pharmacy intern for at least the next approximately four months. He went ahead to asses my prior knowledge in retail pharmacy by asking me what experience I bring on board. Being a pharmacy technician at Walmart for four years was enough for him to jump me straight to simple identification of medications and their therapeutic indication. He went ahead to invite me to observe him as he interacted with patients on medication counseling. As I began to alert him on the extent of the knowledge that I have as a

Then, he would bring out his glasses and read all the information I need from his data-book. The tone of his voice was very soft that you can barely hear him. Additionally, he would show me an experiment, using his chubby hands to draw a conclusion to prove that the information in the data-book or his hypothesis is true. The moment when the climax of the experiment has happened, I thought that a new fantasy world has appeared in my brain, opening my mind to make a passage of into the world of science and the nature around us. Because of the power my grandpa gave me, I was the most intelligent student in the school of learning science.…

I have decided to pursue PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals to have the opportunity to be trained by the best to become the best clinician, teacher, and researcher that I can be. A good friend of mine, who has completed his PGY1, and currently going through his PGY2 in Hematology Oncology at UNC Hospitals, Dr. Ryan Beechinor, has mentioned many great things about the program. I am most impressed with the structure of the residency project. The flipped research model is extremely beneficial for residents. I have had firsthand experience where the IRB approval process delayed me from working on the project.…

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

As I stepped through the doors at my first PFO retreat, I immediately felt inadequate. I was surrounded by talented, compassionate, articulate teens, but I just felt like a normal 15 year old. I remember thinking that I must've gotten in by accident, because there was no way that I measured up to what was expected of a PFO teen. The next day, my entire perspective changed. Throughout the retreat, people would write comments of gratitude about others on sticky notes and leave them on a board in the front of the room.…

I remember the day before my first day at Pennoyer. I was sad and happy, scared, and mad all at the same time. I remember crying and yelling at my parents to not make me go to school that next day. The next day I showed up at school and remember walking into Mrs. Michael’s third grade class and seeing all of these new people that I would be friends with for years to come. At this school is where I made new friends, great memories, and where I grew up from a little kid into a young adult.…

Immediately, I accepted. I pulled out my note card with all of the information I needed to obtain from the pharmacist, grabbed my pen, and took the phone off hold. It turned out that there were five drugs that needed to be transferred. After exchanging pleasantries, I warned the pharmacist on the other line that this was my first transfer and that I would probably need her to repeat things slowly. The pharmacist genially assured me that it wouldn’t be a problem.…
