Personal Narrative: My First Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience

I had the opportunity of serving my first Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Fl. I worked alongside of pharmacist, Payam Parchamzad RPh. and his certified technicians. I currently work in a retail pharmacy at Publix, and having the ability to experience hospital pharmacy was very interesting because I gained more knowledge, saw a patient in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and learned about different medications that I wouldn’t dispense in a retail setting. I’m thankful that I had the privilege to do my rotations at the hospital. Having this exposure to both retail and hospital pharmacy I can put into perspective of where I see myself working when I obtain my PharmD. Capital Regional Medical Center opened in September of 1979 and is committed to the care and improvement of human life. I’m glad I was able to be apart of the team. I worked well with the technicians and pharmacists because I had to help prepare some of the medications for them that was out of stock and they were appreciative of me contributing to the workload of the pharmacy. I also followed directions or anything that was asked of me such as making IV bags or prepping antibiotics. Capital Regional Medical Center not only has a great staff inside the pharmacy, but they also have a great staff out in the community. This hospital contributes to March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, CRMC cater to women’s health by the herHeart program that empowers women to take charge of their health. This is what makes Capital Regional Medical Center an extraordinary hospital because they provide emergency care to a wide range of ages as well as taking part in the community
