Personal Narrative: My First Intermediate Accounting Class

Improved Essays
When I took my first intermediate accounting class, I did not do well in the midterm. I was overwhelmed by my grades and even thought about giving up majoring in accountancy. I instantly decided to talk with my professor and asked his suggestions to get through this class. Based on my professor’s advice, I spent extra hours reviewing intraday material after class. I read the textbook and also did the practice questions besides the homework. In addition, I set up a study group to learn with classmates in the weekend. It was an effective way, because I can query my doubts and also telling the questions what I already understand to other classmates. Working in a group provided me the best opportunity to observe others’ experience and strengths.

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

I used to work at a small business called Coats Accounting, when I first got out of high school. Joe (my boss) had me working with luis and James. Our job obligations were to interview each customer, ask for their information and get any forms (like 1040s, etc.). We were also in charge of answering phone calls, filing, and running errands. Since I was the only girl , James and Luis would assume that I liked to pick up phone calls and would have me do most of the filling.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

    1. An eager and motivated learner takes on the initiative to progress through their studies, without the need to be prodded along by either external rewards, or outside individuals. This type of learner looks at the long-term goals/effects of their education, and presses on towards them no matter the apparent obstacles or shortcomings. 2. Two Personal Strengths as a Student: Even when not asked to, I seek out additional tools to help me study in a more effective, streamlined, and organized way as I embark on my learning journey. I look for ways to improve my future works, both from peer feedback and personal assessments on my current works.…

I was assigned to work together with Lisa Adamson and Katie Doherty. My group and I were in charge to teach chapter eight sections four and five. Chapter eight section four was about functions, and chapter eight section five is about coordinate system. Surprisingly, our group previously taught a lesson of a fifth grade math class, and our sections tied into teaching up to the middle and high school level. I enjoyed these sections and I will discuss how I felt working as my group and how I individually performed.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

Students are encouraged to work together to succeed, but I was not one that people wanted within their study groups. I am a mother of four, which made classmates assume I had no time for studying or the ambition to prevail. I studied by myself the first weeks, but truly wished I had others along my side. Others can provide different ways of understanding materials or provide experiences that I may relate with. Fortunately, I was one of the few to achieve an “A” on the first exam.…

The year of ninth grade, when I took my first Advanced Placement classes, was also one of my most frustrating years. In ninth grade, I enrolled in AP Physics and AP Human Geography. During my elementary and junior high career, I was used to not doing as much work to get A's in my classes. I was ignorant to think those same methods would get me through what was essentially a college course. After receiving my first test back in Human Geography, I was petrified to see my first C on a test.…

These are some of the very few main ideas I plan on using to help me be successful and or get through the year at CBK. To be a successful student at CBK I feel it's mostly about time management since this schooling program is for students who want to succeed in life it's either succeed or fail to me because we get to choose to come and leave as we please. My idea to be successful is to attend as much schooling as I possibly can to speed up the process of learning more material CBK has to offer. Coming from a small town in Oregon i know communication and asking for help to be successful in life isn't a problem to communicate. The idea of showing up the majority of the time is to educate myself to the fullest and learn as much material being taught at CBK as i can this year.…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…
