Personal Narrative-My First IEA Team

Improved Essays
One Sunday afternoon, just this past fall, I had my first IEA show. My trainer and I had been preparing for this for the past few months. My breeches were stiff, and my boots were almost as shiny as the grin on my face. I hoped for the one thing I had yet to acquire: a blue ribbon. The other riders were mounting when I took a deep breath, soaking in the crisp fall breeze. This is it, Gabi. You got this. When I saw my teammates watching and cheering for me on the sidelines, my nervousness disappeared. The ride was neither good nor bad, but it definitely was an experience paying extra attention to all the little details to keep my equitation in check. As the judge directed my class to dismount and started to read out placings, my heart sank. …show more content…
Prior to IEA, I would be riding the same horse doing the same thing, every ride. From this experience, I have learned many new skills such as, recognizing the individual needs of horses, how to ride in group lessons with many horses in the ring, and show etiquette. Additionally, my equitation has improved, not to mention the countless other lessons I have learned in only a few months about horsemanship and being part of an IEA team . I do not think that I would be the same rider that I am today without IEA and since the end of the IEA season, I have continued to ride diverse horses to increase my skill. IEA has changed everyone on my team’s riding experience and career, especially mine. I feel this is such a breakthrough because my riding didn’t have meaning until I started IEA. Now I ride for a cause. I ride to bring pride to my barn, family, teammates, and trainer. Most importantly, I ride to prove to myself that I do not give up, and there is always room for improvement. Before I started doing IEA, I did not even know what I was missing. To be honest, I do not truly have a set plan for the rest of my riding career, but I do know that it will involve IEA and

I have been volunteering with the Spina Bifida Association of Alabama (SBA) for five years. I first decided to begin working with this association because working with children who have disabilities has always held a special place in my heart. Working with the SBA has helped me make a difference in my community and bring awareness to the disease of Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida victims have many limitations. The disease causes problems with their walking skills and most victims become confined to a wheel chair early in life.…

Not so much about how she will perform but more on how well I've worked with her and if I've taught her what she needs to know and if it was enough for her to be ready to be at her first race. We are here for exhibition runs only tonight so I ease my thoughts by focusing on that. We are here for her to get used to the surroundings and the excitement of the barrel racing scenes. She has to get used to being around unfamiliar horses, so many new and loud noises, her first time in an indoor arena to ride, are just the beginning of the path ahead of us. With all of this in mind, I get her saddled and go to sign up for our…

My administrative project goal focused on collaboration and working on our curriculum with my English department 9-12. Personally, this has been an area that I wanted to focus on for years because I felt that each ELA teacher was not able to move forward when it came to developing a viable curriculum. As teachers, we were planning on an individual grade level, but we were not specifically aware of what our colleagues were doing. For example, questions like: How much research was being done with students? , Who was practicing the skill of close reading?…

It was October 16, 2012. I was in seventh grade, just a boy to become someone or something. We were loading the bus with our two coaches, Coach Voss and Coach Larh. Coach Voss the offensive coach who liked to make us run, and coach larh, our Defensive coach who taught me everything I known about the defensive side of the ball. This was a big game for me and my fellow teammates this game was going to set the tone for the rest of the season to show that we can be successful.…

My swim team has an honored tradition of shaving their heads the night before the district swim meet. Districts is by far the biggest meet of the year where all swimmers attempt to break personal records and qualify for state. This shaving of the heads promises a possible time drop of maybe one tenth of a second and also builds a sense of team unity. In 2013, my freshman year of high school, I refused to partake in this sacred ritual.…

The summer oh August 2013 was the year I started my journey to as an athletic trainer. Almost every year we get new students with different physical and mental characteristics. On the week of my eighteenth birthday, I started to realize that now that I'm 18 and about to graduate from high school all there is left for me to do is graduate high school and college, get a good job, get married, make a difference, have kids and die.…

When I was in 8th grade, I was extremely shy and quiet. I always tried to avoid conflict and arguments at all costs, even if it meant standing by as an instance of injustice unfolded in front of me. A situation in which I upset someone in my community was a few years ago, when I let an outsider feel unwelcome in a group I was a part of. In hindsight, this conflict was probably normal for girls my age, but it left a lasting impact on me, and shaped how I deal with similar situations now. I was working on a long-term group project with several classmates.…

Being involved in this amazing program that the Lalor football club provides I was given an incredible insight into many different facets of learning. For example, I got to experience how people were able to work together to create a family friendly, safe and welcoming football club that everyone is welcome to be involved in, the junior program is a key example of this as being involved in it I was able to see how safe…
