One word, cold, that's all you feel. Your skin is tingling, toes numb all from the cold, just sitting waiting for the game to begin. When it starts everything disappears the cold the noise everything. It all vanishes. At least that's how it felt when I got second at the state hockey tournament, my greatest achievement in high school so far. This experience taught me to always work hard and to have fun while doing it.
Before I moved to Vermillion South Dakota I was passionate about hockey so I sought out the closet team which was in Yankton. Learning how to play with a new team was difficult because I didn't know anyone on my team or what positions they played best. Teams where picked by trying out. The best players get put on the A team and everyone else is on the B team. That year I was on the A team. It was hard to practice

We were then playing in the championship game. Anticipation and adrenaline ran through our veins waiting for the national anthem to end so we could finally see who's best in the state. When the puck dropped we were off to the races. It didn't take long for us to score a few goals, but we realized that it was getting harder and harder to get past there defense. Soon they were the ones scoring. It did not take them long to catch up. Third period they tied it up with 30 seconds left in the period. It’s a stalemate, neither teams could get past each other's defense. Overtime still nothing, two minutes of hard competitive hockey, nothing. No one scored and after that a shootout. During a shootout the opposing team goes first in a one on one. Their team went first they shot and scored. Now it's our turn, everyone holds there breath waiting to see if he'll make the shot or miss. Everyone went silent it's so quiet you can here the puck on the ice as it slid toward the goal. He took the shot and it was a miss. We had lost but none of us were sad or mad we all new we had fun and put everything out there on that

My domination of easily breezing by my neighbors in street hockey and always ranked at the top of stat sheets for scoring in recreational hockey, abruptly ended when I joined my first competitive travel hockey team. My first game exemplified the setbacks my fear imposed on my team when I frighteningly moved out of the way of an enormous player to grant him a free pass to the net in which he scored the game winning goal. Shamefully looking at me as if I were an ally of the other team, I became alienated after my team after they began the tradition of…

I’ve been playing the incredible sport of Ice Hockey for over 10 years now. Although it has become steadily easier, and more about sharpening skills than developing them, in the beginning it was extremely difficult. The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…
