Personal Narrative: My First Football Game Under Lights

Improved Essays
Our first football game under lights took place at the Hayward youth football field. It was a very intense game against our rivals. We called it the rivalry game, because they are our rivals. The reason they are our rivals is because they have beat us in the championships prior to the year of this year’s 2016 summer season. When we got to the field, we watched the younger kids play before us. Their specific name are the white knights, or peewee level division. Their age groups are from 10 to 11 years of old, so that means that they are the smaller age group. The white knights are very small, yet they can pack a punch. I saw many good runs on offense, then I also saw many good blocks and defense . About 10 minutes into the white knights halftime, it …show more content…
Before we started, our team captains went up to do a coin toss to determine who was going to start out the game. Unfortunately, we lost the coin toss. But their team captain has chosen to let us start the game as kickoff. So when we did kickoff, we started off the game. When we kicked off, we kicked to 60 yards. They ran it in into about the 50 yard line, a good starting place for us and them. On their first run, they lost about 3 yards. My teammate got a sack on the first play. We started out strong so that we could set the tone. When we set the tone out early, they know that we are ready to come out to the gridiron. After the game was over, it turned out that we lost. We still played our hearts out and left it all on the field. After the game we have decided to go celebrate at Mountain Mikes. When we arrived, we were all bummed out that we have lost. We returned the next tuesday and practiced very hard on our mistakes and flaws. We have viewed our tape of the game to see why our mistakes were made and what penalties have happened. After we watched all our flaws, we ran some plays then got in some reps for our offense and

I could feel the cold, crisp air seeping through my jersey as I watched our struggling defense. Who were jaded and bittered, letting up more than 28 points this game. As our opponent’s defense let up only 24 points. I could feel the tension in the crowd, and in our own teammates. “Touchdown Gators!”…

How am I to show this coach that I’m worth starting with such little time? I transferred to Apex Friendship second semester, my sophomore year right before the start of the lacrosse season. Every player had months of pre-season workouts to show the coach their skills while I had only two weeks to prove I was better than the players he had already been watching for months. I put in as much work that was possible by running fast, playing hard and smart. I needed this coach to see that I had the IQ as well as the ability to play at a higher level than the other guys.…

We came crashing down two games later when we lost our first game in the season. Coach Leake let us have it at practice when we had to do conditioning with the distance runners on the track team. We did it as a team with no complaints because it is the way that teams work even though the players that were strutting around did not play as often as others. After we finished the running coach called the end of practice and gave us a ultimatum. "…

I remember going into the locker room at halftime not content with the way we had performed in the first half. We talked as a team until the coaches got into the room and then they made some adjustments to the game plan that would help us play better. We all left the locker room hungry for victory, and were willing to do whatever it took to get the first win of the season. Coming out of half we were playing really well.…

On Monday, my boyfriend had a flag football game. In my opinion he is one of the best guys on his flag football team, because he played football most if this life. We arrived a little late to his game, because we had a test in our Sexual Health class. The team was not doing that well before we got there and they were happy when they saw Jaylan came. Their opponent team did not seem all that good, but Jaylan’s team was just a little jumpy about the game.…

After completing six and a half innings, we head into the bottom of the final inning as the Aquinas Blugolds are ahead of Lake Country Lutheran 4-2. As a young child around the age of 5, I started playing baseball, and just like almost every little boy or girl, I always had that dream about making the game-winning shot in basketball or making that diving catch to win the state championship in baseball. My dream was almost fulfilled on June 18th, 2015. The season started in March and went all the way until June. At the beginning of the season, I wasn’t sure how much playing time…
