Personal Narrative: My First Events That Shaped Who I Am

Improved Essays
One of my first events that shaped who I am is when I got baptized when I was eight. I got baptized at the Ucon stake center. I can remember being so excited. The bishop had interviewed me earlier that week and I was all set to go. The only thing I felt nervous about was if I forgot to hold my breath before i went under. Other than that I felt completely prepared to be baptized. Actually there was one other thing I felt like could go wrong, I was worried that that my family would be late (my family can sometimes not be on time). I mean usually I am the one who is ready first and I am the one trying to make everyone go faster. But that morning luckily we got to the stake center with time to spare. Everything went very smoothly.
The next biggest event is when i got ordained a deacon when i was 12. I got interviewed by the bishop in his office. I thought it was only going to be my mom, dad, and my brother. But it turns out my aunts and uncles came

When my family dropped my brother Caden off at the MTC. It seemed a lot more lonely without him but with him gone I got my own room so it only bothered me a little. Cody left when Caden was still out on a mission when we got home from the MTC it was so lonely… I didn’t go into my family's basement for maybe a month because there was no one done there and since there was no one down there. There wasn't a good reason to go downstairs. I got really bored with them gone, I played basketball and soccer with both of them before they had left. Since they were both gone I was sad since no one would hang out with me. Kyson was rude to me so i didn't want to hang out with him much. But, when Caden got back I was so happy because he played soccer with me . I was happy I had someone else I could talk to (besides Kyson, who would criticize everything). When Cody got back I was so flippin excited. Caden and Cody hadn’t seen each in about three and a half

An important rite of passage that has held the most significance for me is when I had gotten baptized and then took my first communion. Baptisms are important to the Catholic religion. Getting baptized means you are officially entering the Catholic church. Ordinarily, children get baptized into the Catholic church when they are infants, but my mother decided to have me baptized when I was eight years old. My parents, grandparents, and soon-to-be godparents were attending my baptism.…

The summer of 2013 was a huge life-changing personal triumph. My church offered me to attend a mission camp with them called Mfuge, The camp involves a lot of ministry work, group worship, and personal group bonding activities so everyone felt comfortable and welcomed. The first day my group got assigned to go out to a lower poverty neighborhoods local park and spend the day with the kids. Seeing every single kid smile, laugh and have the best time of their lives there was never a dull moment. It really opened my eyes to how sometimes the smallest things can make someone feel amazing, and how grateful we should be for everything we have because sometimes in the darkest moments we take that for granted.…

Workshop 4: My Life As A Christ Follower How does one measure the essence of their faith? The United States is, primarily, a monotheistic society with Christianity being the dominate religion. It is not surprising that as a native born resident of this Country, I would adopt this religious belief system. So, is my becoming a Christ follower simply a circumstance of the location of my birth, or is there a deeper meaning? I also ask if I can be true to my faith while respecting the rights of others to seek God in their own way?…

An event that sparked a period of personal growth in my life was when I attended the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia during my sophomore year of high school. The World Meeting of Families is an event promoted by the Catholic Church every three years to celebrate and reflect on the importance of family. I was interested in the ideas of this event and decided to travel with my school to visit Philadelphia for three days. I was traveling for the first time, without my family to an unfamiliar city, accompanied by people that I did not know very well. My experience at the World Meeting of Families was not what I was expecting.…

She was in charge of the food and clothing ministry which seemed to be almost a full-time task for her. Literally thousands of people in the church and the local community were ministered to by my mother, and I was a firsthand witness to many of those. I remember carrying sacks of groceries and clothes to homes all over the city and watching my mom pray and lead these needy people to the Lord. It was in my mother that I saw the hard and often unrecognized work of ministry, but again, it was in the confines of a large church that was committed in stocking the shelves and clothing racks.…

I Am A Feminist, But That Doesn’t Make Me A Nazi When I was 7 years old my mom took me into a small stuffy room that reeked of mothballs. Inside were hundreds of what looked like small wedding dresses and child tuxedos. Communion my mother had said. I had no clue what that meant let alone who Jesus was and why I was drinking his blood-but my mother corrected me when upset assuring it was actually just wine and the body just bread. I was hoping communion wasn 't like a wedding; I had just realized that I wasn 't really as into boys as I was girls and knew what child marriages were-yeah, at 7 I panicked about all sorts of things like rape, natural disaster, and child marriage.…
