Personal Narrative: My First Deer Hunting

Improved Essays
The opportunity to hunt for me is the best thing I could ever wish for. The date was December 3, 2015, and this is the day I killed my first deer. I was at Pleasant View Elementary School for the whole day, but I left at 2:00 to go hunting with my dad. We went to Rutters to grab something to drink, and something to eat. We got our food because my dad didn’t bring food. We both got Twix and a bottle of Sprite, but we ate the food on the way there. My dad and I went to my mom’s parents’ hunting land. The land was some small woods with big fields for the deer to roam and eat. When we got there, we got into our orange clothes, and we walked to our stand. It took us about half an hour to walk to our stand. We finally got into the stand at about 2:45. …show more content…
The stand we used was on the edge of a field at the top of a hill. We sat there, discouraged, for about an hour and a half. The only thing I learned at that time was that sometimes patience is the best policy. Then I fell asleep for ten minutes, but I was dreaming about shooting a monster buck. My dad woke me up, and he whispered, “Hey Bud there are deer down at the edge of the other field.” The deer were starting to come in and feed on the remaining corn in the field from the harvest. We couldn’t spot a Buck, but there was plenty of doe to shoot. They moved to the middle of a field, and they stood there to eat for 10 minutes. I couldn’t shoot them because of a house about 200 yards behind them. Since there was a house behind them, there was no good shooting lane for a safe shot on the doe. Then a buck came out of the woods about 50 yards away, but it ran right in front of us really fast. A buck came around a bend to our left. He walked from 50 yards away to 150 yards

I sat for a few hours waiting for deer but none came so I packed up my gear and wandered aimlessly my way back to the house. I warmed up with some coco my grandma had made me and said I was going to head back out after a quick…

I have my own stand, I hunt by myself I shoot deer in the vitals and the prayer has become a huge part of my hunt. When my dad talks about the hunt of my first deer he tells people that it was when I learned life and death. He says it is when I learned about the highs and lows and life, all in a matter of minutes. When I think about that day I realize that hunting is something that I love and that it is about so much more than I ever thought possible. It is not about having the power of being behind a gun, or killing, or even the satisfaction of holding a deer in your hands.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
