Homeschool parents often read to their young children to both teach and inspire them to love learning. When the children begin to enjoy learning, they become self-starters, internally motivated. Mentors like these inspire children through leadership and example, to live a life of…
Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…
This personal narrative is going to be about the first day of Middle School and my experiences as a 6th grader. It is going to go after my emotions and other descriptive details of the first day. I still remember how the seat belt felt tightening across my chest as the car got closer to the Middle School. During that time I knew nothing about being in a big school because the biggest school i've been in was yankee ridge. (Which is really small).…
A story of a time when I proved somebody wrong. Even though my parents felt like I was not ready to go back to a public school Because of my behavior in the past. They said I was not going to be able to keep up with the work and graduate on time with a standard diploma. Therefore, I had to prove them wrong. I told my foster parents that I was ready to go back to public school.…
Upon entering my 1st grade classroom, students are welcomed into a multicultural, yet simple world. There are a few maps on the wall and a globe in a corner, and some family photos on my desk. A few simple plants, some with colorful flowers, are placed around the classroom. The seating arrangements include circular tables, with four-to-five students at each table, for work in groups.…
This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems.…
BEEP BEEP BEEP! My alarm clock goes off on a Monday morning at 4 am. The excitement wakes me right up, and I sprung out of bed. I rushed into the shower because I had to be ready by 5:15. After getting dressed and packing my things for a 8 hour trip, there and back to Sandusky, Ohio.…
My First Day of High School My first day of high school was known as Freshman Day, where only freshman go to school and learn about the building and their new teachers. It was a time full of surprises. The day before Freshman Day, I was walking up the stairs and got distracted while climbing up.…
As I went to my first day of school in a new city I was nervous, I didn't know if I was going to make any new friends, if I was going to fit in. The first day began and I immediately met Randy and Byanca, little did I know at the time that they would be my friends for all of my school career. Time went by and so did the grade levels, I would always struggle with one subject and thrive in another. During my elementary and middle school years I would struggle in language arts and history, but I would thrive in mathematics mainly because I love numbers.…
“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…
Draft #1 So many things have happened in my years in school, however i’ll never forget my first year of middle school. My first day of middle school was mid october. I remember my mom couldn't make it so i was stuck with my aunt. I was always used to either having 1 teacher or four, but know i had 8 classes in many different places.…
Being a high school student is composed of restless nights, and eight exhausting hours of classes in which you are obligated to stay awake in. A normal school day begins with me snoozing my alarm about ten times before my dad walks into my room telling me the dreaded “time to get up for school” reminder which I just take as a suggestion. Normally I will drag myself into the bathroom about ten minutes later to begin my routine. I spend about 40 minutes in the bathroom preparing myself for school and by the time I am done it is usually time to grab all of my things and barely catch the bus. Now this has to be my least favorite part of the day.…
Many years ago when I was in high school there were two people. The first person was popular and respected for his humor and kindness. His laugh and smile was contagious making everyone love him even more. Little did anyone know though what was transpiring in his head. One night his parents discovered him hanging inside their garage, with a noose around his neck.…
The teacher only took very little action and blew if off, since this the first time this has ever occurred in her class with Lucy. Spare time is given after the lecture is complete , so of course Lucy turns to that person’s direction and for the first time she actually wants to learn more about another person. Lucy could go on talking with that person, more than she already has, but class has come to end. The rest of the day was a blur to Lucy, her mind had been occupied by that person and as soon as she got home, she leaned back on her bed and sighed of exhaust. Soon after, she got back up and gathered her homework to work on.…
An Experience in Public Education: My Venture Into the Unknown The story of how I, a private school nerd, accepted the frightening change of going to public school for the first time, and what I learned in my long process of preparation for it . It is amazing to me how quickly my whole life got turned upside down, and how quickly I adjusted in the midst of it all. I was fifteen, finishing up my sophomore year of high school at Calvary Christian Academy, and anxiously anticipating summer vacation. Throughout the last two years, I had grown to be completely at home in my school, which just so happened to be housed in the only church I had attended since birth.…
