It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…

It all started in third grade when my parents got an email asking if I wanted to do traveling softball. I had just finished my first season of VAA softball and my friend Katie and I decided it sounded like fun. I didn't really know what it meant to be on a travelling softball team back then, I just thought it would be as laid back as VAA. My first year I loved it and I had lots of fun and made lots of new friends. I would practice with my dad often so that I could get better.…

My recurrent shoulder dislocations were a constant battle, but a battle in which I’d always won. After a dislocation, all it took was a couple weeks of physical therapy before I could return to the baseball field. Although, after my fifth dislocation I ended up sitting in the hospital awaiting the results of my MRI with an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. My surgeon soon returned with news that my injury required a season-ending surgery. Thus, I had a Bankart Repair on my throwing shoulder, and afterwards, although devastated, I supported my teammates from the sidelines for the entirety of the season.…

I spent over twenty-three years as an employee of McNary Golf Club. In that time there were a lot of ups and until a few years ago, only a few downs. In the last few years I learned some very discouraging lessons about loyalty and that it was not a two way street. With the help of of a handful of classes I took at George Fox University in the Adult Degree Program, I was able to dig deep and make one of the most difficult decisions of my life; to leave the only job I have known my entire adult life.…

When I was about six years old, my friends who were about 12 or 13 at the time invited me to the baseball field. The one bad part was that to get to the baseball field we had to cross a major road to get there, but at least there was a light. My parents told me I could only go if we were being driven, but I went anyway. It was scary crossing the street, mostly because we did not cross at the crosswalk. We were too lazy to walk down the neighborhood and cross at the light.…
