Today, they said they were going to start working on my room, so Neymar is taking me to meet his son Davi. I'm kind of nervous about it, because he is my new little brother. Commencing Unbound A lurid, fuchsia dress with generously powdered glitter and blaring, familiar music danced to by relatives you weren't even aware were relatives are trademarks of the traditional rite of passage into adulthood in my culture and one I never had the pleasure to experience due to my family's financial situation at that time. Still, my own stride into coming of age was too one with renowned garb, although much less garish. Familiar music playing in the background and only my immediate family sat close to the stage in awe to watch me. Graduating from my esteemed high school, Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH), was the omega to the alpha of my future. That experience both humbled me and triggered the tenacity in me to…

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints- or the Mormon Church. Many people know of the Mormon missionaries, who are spread throughout the world preaching the good news that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Like most Mormon young men, I have wanted to serve a mission ever since I was young; I wanted to dedicate my life to what I believe in, and I wanted to serve those around me. I was only a few months away from leaving on my mission to Santiago Chile when I realized that I was not yet ready to embark on this journey that was a mission. Though I knew I did the right thing, I was devastated.…

The clock strikes 8:00 and my family turns to me expectantly, probably with a hint of exasperation. It’s that time of day again a time they had dubbed “the 8:00 freak out”. As if on cue I burst out laughing uncontrollably, my spaced out teeth gaily showing and my unruly golden curls bouncing up and down with my gracefully spastic movements. I look into the eyes of my familial spectators and, unable to help themselves, they began to laugh as well. Why are you laughing?…
