Personal Narrative: My First Day At Wagner High School

Improved Essays
Back in 2012 was the year I started high school. I remember the first day of school walking into Wagner High School like it was yesterday. My mind and heart filled with a plethora of emotions. At the time I knew I my life as a young adult was just beginning and I am looking forward to what the future has to offer. Time moves fast and does not wait for you. Now that I am a senior in high school I am ready to begin my life in the real world. As a child I have always loved animals and was so interested to learn more about them. I am the type of person who is always happy to help when need. My neighbors would always call me when they found a hurt animal. I would be at their house in the matter of five minutes to take the animal and nurse it back to health on my own. I always care for people and animals before I care for myself. My parents have always told me …show more content…
I am always eager to learn new things so I knew that I had to make this trip possible. I stayed at this camp for a week and volunteered wrier the Bush Gardens staff in there zoo department. This was a once in a lifetime experience for me and I am so satisfied that I went. At the camp I had to wake up every morning at five and leave by six. I would volunteer for endless hours working with various animals in there habitats and in a nutrition center. I got to work with animals like kangaroos, giraffes, and exotic birds. In a nutrition center I made up all the food plans that were created by a nutritionist. I served food to all the animals throughout Bush Gardens. I learned that there was a lot of dirty work, but you learn new things about the different species of animals. My favorite part was seeing what the veterinarians do and how they keep track of an animals health. I got to see and so many things that the average person cant do. This experience made me realize how much work is put into a business and education is

I worked in the biology lab labeling pelts, bones, and animal specimens; by twenty-one, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and strived for my first job out of university. That summer, I joined Humane Society Naples and worked as a veterinary assistant, while also volunteering at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in wildlife rehabilitation. This is my turning point and reminds me of Claudia at age seven, who wanted to save animals. The most vivid and unforgettable part of my time there was seeing the transformation of the animal’s health and behavior. From the time, they come into the shelter, scared and sometimes in pain, to then being apart of the team to medically assess and treat them, to witness their ability to play with other animals, and then to the joys of adopters coming in looking for their forever pet, is…

Also at a younger age I went to Calvert Cliffs (Chesapeake Bay) to find fossils. To start off when I get older I plan on being a neurologist or a veterinarian, and to be a part of this experience would allow me to enhance my knowledge of the anatomy of the animals and as it says in the info packet we will be dissecting a perch or sunfish. It also states that we will collect any wildlife we can obtain within our limits. I will also be able to experience first-hand how quickly the animals we study will be to registering recognizing and reacting to fear (the fight or flight response.) I will also be able to see what it takes to trigger this reaction.…

My interest in the veterinary field began when I was six, when I arbitrarily announced I was going to be a veterinarian simply because I loved animals. Since I was quite young at the time, I was unaware what the job actually entailed. Consequently, I was somehow under the impression that if I watched National Geographic and Animal Planet, then I could immediately become a veterinarian upon graduating high school. I was undeterred when I realized just how much time that needed to be dedicated to school, and instead, it motivated me to take challenging classes in high school and to pursue a job at an animal hospital.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

If one were to ask a young girl want she wants to be when she grows up, she would proudly say a princess, or maybe a rock star. I’ve never been the typical girl though and my answer was always different. Some days I wanted to be a dog trainer or a zookeeper and being a marine biologist wouldn’t be too bad. In middle school I realized what all these jobs had in common; animals. I knew whole heartedly that I wanted to work with them, to improve not only their health and welfare, but also that of the community they were in.…
