Personal Narrative: My First Day At The Illinois State Fair

Improved Essays
It was my first day of 7th grade, I looked down at my schedule; full of unfamiliar names. My first class was “Mrs.Pettyjohn”, for english. When I finally found her room she welcomed me in and told me to sit wherever I would like too. I found my seat, next to a few friends and we began to talk until Mrs.Pettyjohn blurts out, “WELCOME TO 7th GRADE!” Everyone jumped up and looked at our teacher. “Your first assignment in my class is an essay about your 5 senses.” I was at my desk, surrounded by a few friends. They were all talking about what they were going to write, while I was sitting there doing the exact opposite. Even after I went to talk to Mrs. Pettyjohn, her ideas were great but none of them seemed to click. Since I couldn't come up with any brilliant ideas, I decided to use her idea of the Illinois State Fair. Everyone has their own unique experiences at the fair, based on what you see, what you hear, and what you feel. Unique was something I knew …show more content…
I knew every word counted since it was worth a lot of points. So I made every word count. It was the day we turned in our essays, I walked up confident and left not so confident. Lots of thoughts were going on in my head, what if she didn't like the essay? I filled up with anxiety until the next day; it got worse, it was the day we all got our tests back. I slowly Turned the paper around to see I had got a… 100? I was curious on how I got a 100 on my first essay, and I was happy at the same time, their was even a note, at the bottom of the paper that said “I absolutely loved this, keep up the goodwork!” I guess thinking I would do poorly wasn't

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

Long, wide roads, small houses, and steel fences were my view as I walked into an unfamiliar building called Thomas Jefferson Middle School. I did not know anything about the culture or the language; a huge chill came over me, which I have never felt before. I felt goose bumps as I first walked in the building. The building was old and was not well cared for. The colors of the walls were fading and the elevators made the sound of a dying animal when it moved.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

Over the summer, my family continued our long tradition of visiting the Wisconsin State Fair to enjoy everything it had to offer. Whenever we go the the fair, the mornings are pretty rough. My parents, who insist on getting there as soon as possible, woke up us children just as the sun was rising. We groggily awoke, got dressed, and went on our way. The most interesting part of the drive, was finding a place to park.…

I’ve lived my entire life in Indiana, as have my parents. My mom and dad were raised close to Monroe and went to Adams Central, where they met and fell in love. They ended up moving north to Fort Wayne where they had my sister and I. We began our schooling in FWCS, but we moved farther north to the tiny town of Huntertown later, which led to my sister and I switching to NACS for my high schooling and her middle and high schooling. Due to all of the events that have happened here in Indiana throughout my life, and due to most of my immediate family living in the area, I have a desire to continue living and working here.…

It was a hot and humid night in Livingston Parish, Louisiana in the middle of October. My dad, mom, brother, and I were inching our way down the road towards the fairgrounds. The traffic was backed up for at least two miles and my brother and I were restless. At just 9 and 12 we had visions of hot dogs and funnel cakes swimming through our minds, making us ask consistently when we will be there. At almost nine o’clock we finally pull up onto the makeshift dirt driveway heading into the massive parking lot, which was really only a field.…
