My first real relationship shows why I gained isolation and exclusivity instead of intimacy. This is the sixth stage in Erikson’s theory and this is when people are able to gain love, the basic strength of the sixth stage, or exclusivity, the core pathology of the sixth stage. This stage is when a person realizes that they can be with someone without losing their own identity. During this stage, a person must sacrifice and compromise with another person in order to form a commitment. If a person is able do those things, they will gain the basic strength of this stage: love.…

Looking bake over my life as a student I have had success and failures and although I was never what I would consider a bad student I have had many struggles in my schooling career. One of the reasons that I am taking this class is to improve myself as a student!. In my youth I felt that I was a pretty smart student. I never had to work very hard to get an A or a passing grade all through my elementary education and reaching in to my junior high years. Because I was a smart student and never really had to work hard for good grades.…

I had been waiting for this moment for six long, stressful weeks. With over seventy hours of training under my belt, I should have felt prepared to take my first call at the crisis hotline. However, all I felt was the tingling of my nerves that were engulfing my body. I was well-educated on any topics that may arise during the calls and knew exactly how to handle all situations. I passed all practice calls on the first time; I was the first person in the whole team to do so.…

Opening My Eyes to a Familiar Yet Unfamiliar World 1,200 feet above sea level and 30 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles, I woke up as the birds chirped and the sun shined straight into my face in the suburbs of Palos Verdes, California. Waking up in a house on top of an actual hill instead of an apartment on the 27th floor of a manmade building I used to live in, in Seoul, South Korea. Moving back to America after my freshman year of high school was a complete switch for me in environment both culturally and socially. It made me notice the many differences between American and Korean cultures as well as between the life at school I had switching into a public from a private school. This variation in culture and environment helped me understand others better with a more broader point of view.…

It feels like yesterday I was still rushing to finish my essay before class in my first year of college. The way my leg shaked as I rushed to finish and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, but at that moment in time all my focus was drawn to my computer screen and I found myself dozing off a couple times as I finished a paragraph. For some odd reason my mind went blank by the second page, so I just decided to write whatever came to my mind about the kreb cycle; otherwise, I was going to be late for my first class which was BIOL 05LA. So I hurried up and submitted my essay and got ready for class. As I was getting ready all I could think about was my roommate, her name was Zuri Gomez.…

Connecting the Dots Relative to space and time of the universe, every individual seems so negligible and evanescent, just like a tiny wave in the ocean; yet each life is so rich and unique that it is impossible for one to trace down every detail of another person’s life. Two people can look almost identical to each other, but even twins are no way the same: a slight change would alter all the patterns of a person’s life, an ever-shifting kaleidoscope. My background has made me a very distinctive person, but when I reflect, the decisive influence on my life is the choice that I made in high school. One of my most notable characteristics is that I am really ambitious.…
