Come a little closer, I want to let you in on a couple of secrets: my first thoughts and final thoughts of my first College Composition course. My first thought midway through the first quarter was all I need is to get an A, but how on Earth am I going to accomplish that if this crazy grading scale was in my way. Little did I know that it actually takes a good team to receive the grade that each of us want. My role as a student of College English 110 was attend class, participate in class discussions, help stimulate ideas for other classmates, complete all assignments, and much more. During certain occasions, I contribute to the class by stating my opinions, assist other students in his/her work, and revise peers’ drafts. I facilitate the development of my classmates’ writing by reading the essays that were written during this course. While reading one of my classmates work, I can see the improvements in his/her writing development by when I read the paper and briefly recalling his/her previous essays. I was a critical member of the writing community by adding ideas, reviewing peers papers and contributing my written work for others to analyze. Adding an essay to the web seemed like a duty as a writer. My first task as a writer is to develop the process of my essay. We were introduced to a six …show more content…
That is probably why I received a similar grade to my first essay. By the third assignment, I considered changing my writing process. The one thing that I did differently was that I made a list of the requirements of the paper. The information would go under that line. For example, I needed to have judgment, criteria, and evidence in my consumer review. I made those my headlines. I added the details under it. By using this format to begin my paper was helpful because I knew I had the necessary information. Altering this part of my process played an important part in my final grade of consumer review

Last semester was definitely the hardest for me. I have two challenging research papers toward the end of the semester. I find it hard because I did not know what to write about and which assignments I should start on first. I manage to overcome this challenge by narrowing the topics and start on the paper that was closest to deadline. My stress level was at 10 because I skip meals and stayed up all night long to finish my papers.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

When I was a child I always though about business. I wanted to know how things worked, how money worked. I started watching my grandfather write his invoices, deposit checks, talk to people as if he knew them but they had just met. I wondered how he did it, how he played his cards right and got people to hire him.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

My writing experience in and out of school has almost always been seen exactly the same. It’s work, you do it for the grade and for some you suffer the entire time. On the occasional paper, usually one with no restrictions and you choose your subject, I find myself in a love and hate relationship with it. The fact being that writing papers has almost always been seen as homework for me. Have your paper done by this day, it needs to be this many words, and no grammatical errors just isn’t something I’d find myself getting hyped for every saturday night.…

When entering college and finishing my first essay, I realized my process wasn’t good enough in order to write a good essay. When doing my first narrative and comparing my narrative to the article “Thirty-eight who saw murder,” my process was reading thoroughly over the article and writing a reading report of the reading which it was included in the beginning of my introduction as seen in the image below. Afterwards, I just started finishing my introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. In addition, when finishing my first draft I revised it as well as from my instructor as shown in the black marks below. From the individual conference with my instructor, it is shown in the image that I needed to fix almost my whole introduction.…

Prior I had little experience with formulating research type papers. I was able to learn about credible sources and I was able to learn how to use the library’s online database which was supportive for my papers. Even the books proved to be valuable resources, especially the Norton Field Guide. This particular book taught me how to properly analyze a text and it provided a series of steps that makes understanding a passage much simpler. In fact, I even wrote out the steps in a summarizing format for future reference, and I’m certain I will make use of them.…

As time ticks by, my hands rush to scribble down letters to form the first essay of the first semester, then the second, and finally the last. Throughout the first semester, students in Honors English experienced writing essays in a short amount of time while trying to maintain the essay’s quality. I believe that although I did well in some parts of my Summer Reading Essay, The Odyssey Essay, and Character showing Empathy Essay, there were pieces of the essays that could be improved and in the future, I aim to achieve the goals I have set up to enhance my work.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
