Personal Narrative: My First Car

Shortly after I had turned seventeen years I learned a valuable lesson that I would carry on for the rest of my life. I learned that a dream can be turned into a nightmare if you choose instantaneous gratification over delayed gratification. Most people have something they dream of owning and in my case, it was a Honda CRX. I first saw this car when I was fourteen years old and I knew I had to have one. I had been seventeen for a little more than a month when I totaled my first car, a 2003 GMC Yukon. The day after I started looking at cars to get an idea of what I wanted, however, I did not know how much insurance money I would have to purchase another vehicle. After a week of waiting we received the total amount of money I would have to …show more content…
I search through many different examples of the car on Craigslist. The exact model I wanted was a 1991 Honda CRX Si. The only major drawback was finding an example that was in my budget, in good condition, and has not had an engine swap. After a few days of failed attempts at finding a reasonable Si, I decided to look at the HF and base models as well. I searched for weeks before I found the car I was looking for. The example I found was a very clean 1989 Honda CRX HF, and the seller only asked thirty-five hundred dollars for it. This model would fit a high school junior well with its aggressive looks, impressive gas mileage of fifty miles-per-gallon, and also completely stock. So, I immediately talked to my parents about it and they said we could look at the …show more content…
After I contacted the seller; I called my dad, who is a mechanic, and asked if he would go with me to look at the car. He loved the idea! We drove the short distance from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to get a better view at the condition of the car. Other than a messed up rear bumper, other very minor cosmetic issues, and a worn-out CV-axle; the car seemed amazing. One of the highlights of my life was driving my dream car for the first time. We were sold. The sellers let us take the car home and come back later to pay; because they knew I loved the car. This was the beginning of my journey with my dream car. It only toon a week before I started modifying the car. The first thing I did was install a five-point racing harness and a harness bar. This not only improved the car cosmetically, but added extra safety since the car was manufactured without airbags to reduce weight. I also repainted the trim of the car because it was in bad shape. The only other modification I could complete was a new sound

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…
