The last few days of my life have been something new to me. I truly know now what I’ve been taking for granted. The war isn’t the great adventure it seemed to be at first. In the past battle at Vimy, I’ve witnessed the death of thousands of young men just like me. During the nights of the battle, the constant deafening noises of the enemy shells, bombs, and explosives made gave me nightmares. The trenches would be infested by rats and maggots who would swarm the dead bodies. This would frighten the new recruits and make them scream. On the bright side mother, Vimy Ridge was such a greatly successful battle. Commander Arthur Currie did a great job of preparing us. He gave all of us a map and he helped us visualize our tactics to defeat the Germans at the Ridge by building a model.

You won’t believe how badly this surprised the Germans! We captured Vimy Ridge within 3 days! I also find it amazing how we Canadians have won this battle despite the losses that the French and British armies suffered fighting this same one. Despite this I’ve still seen the unseeable: groups of badly injured men being transported to the hospital, which they would usually leave dead or without a limb. Also, to survive we have to eat food according to our solder diets. I guess this we only have this food because of the rations you have at
