Personal Narrative: My First Animal Abuse

Decent Essays
When I was in High school, I thought I wanted to become a vet or something that help animals. I did sat in some surgery at my Vet office. I do have "guts' to see bloody objects but when it comes down to an animal hurt it was different feeling. I couldn't process the thought of human physically hurting cat or dog on purpose. There is a good chance, I would lose my licenses seeing my first animal abuse case.

Just checking in to see how your dog duties are coming along. I hope Emma is healing and that Diesel hasn’t eaten anyone yet. Our Foster dog almost died, was diagnosed with either/both leukemia and a stomach blockage of some sort, and then made a full recovery. We had a chance to have him put down, but I decided to give him more time and brought him home from the hospital with a prescription for Prednisone, which was expected to extend his life by maybe another 6 weeks. He’s in his third week now and, other than the shaved legs and belly, seems perfectly normal.…

“If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone in the world would be a vegetarian.” This is a quote by Linda McCartney and it could not be more true. People do not really think about what happens to farm animals in slaughterhouses in order to provide for our human needs. They give us with food, materials, and have even aided us in medicine. It is clear that animals are essential to human existence and therefore should be treated with respect, right?…

The modern day rodeo society is seen as cruelty and abuse from the outside world. The image of a lasso being thrown around a young cow’s horns or a man riding a bucking bull is seen as abuse, which could easily be seen that way to an uneducated person, but if one looks at the anatomy of the animals to the organizations and precautions taken the animals are very well protected. The truth is that these rodeo animals receive better treatment and medical care than the rodeo contestants themselves. The side of rodeo that the outside world only sees is the accidents were unfortunately either the animal or contestant is injured. The sport of rodeo in the U.S.A. is not a form of cruelty or abuse yet a sport with a risk just like any other.…

My time as a Veterinary Technician taught me many things. From how to draw shots to how to take x-rays. One of the most common lessons I learned was how to spay a female canine. Although the Veterinarian is the only one allowed to be “hands-in” during surgery, I learned a lot from watching the procedure. Surgery preparations begin the day before.…

Animal abuse has been a constant, underlying issue in modern society for a long time. Hidden in plain sight, most people tend to ignore or miss the signs of animal abuse. This issue is addressed in the advertisements created by Mikayla Slom and Alexandria Wai at the ISF Academy. Designed to appeal to an audience of animal lovers, the two advertisements suggest that animal cruelty is hidden away in many aspects of our lives and aim to make the viewer take action. These two advertisements both convey their messages using short sentences, slogans and symbolism to make the viewer think about their own part in the problem and urge them to take action about the issue.…

For the longest time I have always wanted to have a puppy, so I would ask my dad in the nicest way possible, “Can we pretty please get a puppy?” Until now, he would always respond, “No! You’re not responsible enough, Sam.” I believe my dad did not want to adopt a dog because when he was younger he owned one, and the dog died. I figured that made him really depressed, and he did not want me going through the same situation.…

I grew up in a household full of turmoil which left me confused as if I was truly loved growing up. My upbringing consisted of abandonment from a father I met for the first time when I was 12 years old and have not spoken to since 2010. It also consisted of emotional and physical abuse from a mother that never truly expressed the love of a mother that every child is nurtured from, and sibling rivalry from family members that envied on another to the point that ongoing emotional and physical abuse finally tore my family apart. It came to no surprise in 2012 after a family altercation; I was left abandoned by my mother and forced into homelessness on the streets of Houston, Texas at age 19. All I had in my possession was a brush, my eyeglasses,…

From the young age of four I was repeatedly molested by a member of my extended family. This abuse continued until I was eight years old because I was too young at first to realize that what he was doing was not right. When I did become old enough to know what was happening I would try to fight him off, but to no avail. I feared that telling someone in my family would end up with somebody getting hurt, and I did not want that. The abuse ended for good as soon as I started to avoid him.…

Have you ever had a experience of finding an animal, adopting them, and caring for them until you can find a home for them, I have. When I was in elementary school, I spent a portion of my free time creating. I would play with Lego (small interlocking building blocks) for hours, alone or with friends. I also enjoyed making sand castles in my backyard, or at the beach close to my home. My lunch and recess breaks would be consumed by various games of tag, typically Manhunt. Another activity that I loved to do was to visit the petting zoo.…
