For my final portfolio I decided to use a research paper I did for project one in the beginning of the semester. To begin with I wrote this paper without taking a careful look at what I was writing. I mostly let my thoughts flow and let my fingers do the typing. However once, we did the peer review in class I had noticed that my partner had a good amount of corrections written down on my paper for me to look at. After I got my paper back I looked at the revisions made and saw I had some sentences that would go off topic from what I was talking about, I repeated myself, and had a lot of grammatical errors. My key life lessons are that nothing beats hard work and if you treat others with respect, they will generally treat you with respect. Hard work and effort are the main aspects that lead to “lucky” things happening. Good things don’t just fall into people’s laps, the ones that have the most “luck” generally are those that put in the most effort and work. Also, I have learned that when you truly respect those around, they will respect you back and life is much easier when you aren’t doing things behind each other’s backs.…

It was the first essay I ever wrote in college and it was on a topic I never hard of, rhetorical analysis. I when I was writing it, I kept getting frustrated because I didn’t feel like it was my best work. I did a lot of research on it and with the help of the writing center and my Professor, Dr. Osterhaus, I came to the conclusion that a rhetorical analysis was not as foreign as I though it was. The best improvement I made on my paper was based on the feedback I received at the writing center.…

Everyone can say that they always imagined or wanted to look up to someone whether if the person was famous or related to them. Throughout my teenage day I’ve always wanted someone to mentor me and show me things in life that I can one day use in the future years to come. Polished Brief Have you ever wanted something so bad that you thought it was necessary for your life to go on, for me that something was a pet dog. There are several experiences in my life where I have felt that I was treated in an unfair manner, but the most recent of those experiences is the one that occurred to me only months prior to this application. Up until the beginning of November of this year, I used to believe that being a great and successful student would be the most rewarding accomplishment of my senior high career. As a result of this, I unwisely assumed that the most important thing in my life was how well I could do on the next test. I spent a meager amount of my time involved in anything else aside from my homework or studying; expecting to be fairly remunerated for a majority of my hard work. Earlier this year, I was indeed rewarded with an application to National Honors…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…
