Personal Narrative: My Fight For Freedom Of Expression

The great man Bob Marley once said, “Get up, stand up, Stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, Don't give up the fight.” Nothing will get done if you don’t at least try and fight for it. When something is taken away from you, you need to fight for it. Everyone has and deserves rights including the right to freedom of expression. This story shows my fight for freedom of expression. I remember back in 7th grade buying new shoes that were red, white, and black, with a touch of silver. Silver Nike symbols on each side of the shoe. The high top providing ankle support. The sole was white while the shoe was a crimson red with a black tongue. Fresh out of the box they had the great new shoe smell and I could not wait to wear them to school that …show more content…
Could he really do that to all of us after all the new shoes everyone had bought! Money our parents used to buy them went straight down the drain. I went through all the stages from disbelief, to sadness, to anger. Slowly over the coming weeks people’s shoe game began to get weak. Bland colors throughout the hall. Where was our sense of individuality. We all wore uniforms, couldn’t wear our hair many ways, our shoe game was the way we were different. Taking that away made many feel like robots. A select few, including me, decided not to conform. That mixed with the fact that our parents refused to buy new shoes made us stand out. Students in science teacher Katherine Levensailor’s first period class made sandals with Amazon’s delivery cardboard boxes inside and outside of room 803, on Oct. 19 for children in Haiti, victims of natural disasters. Haiti is still recovering from a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred in 2011 and Hurricane Matthew that claimed the lives of more than 877 people. These disasters left many children without shoes, causing them to have injuries such as cuts, sores, and infections on their feet. The sandals made from this project were sent to Soles4Souls, an organization that “collects shoes and sends them overseas. They send them to places where people don’t have shoes and distribute them,” said Levensailor.…

Until Kenton Lee looked down and saw a little shoeless girl standing next to him, he had no idea he wanted to be a designer. And yet, that's where he got his big idea: shoes that can grow five sizes and last for at least five years, designed to help the poor children who don't have the means to buy a new pair as soon as they outgrow their old ones. After teaming up with Proof of Concept, an Oregon-based shoe development company, Lee released the first official batch of shoes in 2014. They came in two sizes: for kindergartners to 4th graders and for 5th to 9th graders. Each of the two versions can be adjusted at three places: straps on the toe, heel and either side.…

I agree with your post. I also felt that with each state having a myriad of laws that aren’t necessarily congruent with other states, let alone the federal government, would make it difficult if not impossible to have a single court. Therefore, with the way our system is set up, it is a necessity to have a multi-tiered court. When looking at the downside, I hadn’t contemplated the fact of jurisdictional conflict.…

The people’s reaction to me breaking the social norm of wearing shoes in the house was a mixture of confusion, anger, and ignorance. The behaviors they displayed were expected as they didn’t understand why I haven’t taken off my shoes yet. Some continued to look at my feet and scanning my body over and over without saying anything, while others, mostly the adults, would be angry at my actions. However, a few relatives didn’t notice my shoes, as they assumed I have already taken them off. At first, my family thought I had an important task to do, so they disregarded it.…

Today, I received the most disheartening news: I deserve no rights as a person. For years, white men have continued to oppress my fellow African-American slaves.
