Personal Narrative: My Field Hockey Team

Decent Essays
One time where I had to be a leader and help others out was when my field hockey team and I were facing our biggest opponent of the season; Columbus Academy. The whole entire game was an upfield battle as both teams were very skilled and kept each other on their toes. As the game went on, I saw that many of the girls on my team were becoming very frustrated, as the hard work they were putting in got shot down by the other team. When it reached the end of the game, the score had been a tie; 0-0. This resulted in an overtime 7 vs. 7 game. When we were just about to start the game, I decided it was a good time to have a quick talk with my team. I thought that since we were all overly stressed, we needed a moment before we played to cool down and show each other that we had everyone’s back. Even though …show more content…
At the time my parents got divorced I thought my world was shattering into pieces, even at a young age. Moving from one city to another was very rough but me and my sister had to look on the bright side of things: we were moving to a new city which we were told was very friendly and going to a new school. The brand new school meant I would make many new friends, and most of those friendships are still being held to this day. The divorce would also come with another obsticle being that i would be going between both my mom and my dads house all the time. It is especially hard on me now at this age because all of my friends and clothes are at my mother’s house instead of my dads, but i figured out a comprimise between my dad and I to give each other time in our busy scheduals.Aspects of my character that have shown throught this journey are that I am capable of adapting to different situations and cercumstances pretty quickly and to stay positive, especially when I have a younger sister that needs someone to count on to be there for her whenever she needs

Imagine a rocket, specifically molded, perfectly symmetrical, prepared to do it’s job exactly how it needs to with no room for error. Seems almost perfect, on the other hand we have the Rockets, my AAA hockey team the summer before sixth grade. It was made up of players from the La Crosse area who played and practiced together every summer for the last few years. We weren’t exactly the most organized team in the sense of having professional attitudes. The ceiling at our practice arena had leaks and water would pour out if it was hit with anything.…

Fear not your best friend fear Eagerly waiting for the sound of the final bell ending the game, I limped back to the locker room ashamed of failing my teammates once again. With my jersey drooping below my knees, I dreaded every second of ice time starring at a swarming pool of merciless giants. Receiving the puck gave you the opportunity to score, but for me it meant running into a wall. Running into other players sent me flying through the air before gasping for air and landing dazed on the verge of unconsciousness. The condemnation of failing to contribute to my team or participating in the physical aspect of hockey reminded me I was in a dark world of self-loathing because I couldn't accept this fact.…

My hands gripped my lacrosse stick tightly and my eyes stared at the ball, which was trapped between two girls. I waited. I waited for the whistle to sound and the ball to fly in the air, the yellow of it vanishing into the sun. I was ready. I could hear the steady breathing of the girl next to me and the beating of my heart.…

I’ve been playing the incredible sport of Ice Hockey for over 10 years now. Although it has become steadily easier, and more about sharpening skills than developing them, in the beginning it was extremely difficult. The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…

It was a warm April afternoon. Everyone on the softball team was dismissed at 9th period (2:15 p.m.). We waited for our bus to come and take us to Upper Perk. When everyone loaded the bus, you can smell confidence in the air. As the 7th and 8th grade teams waited for their coaches and the bus, we sat and talked about how bad the hallway smelled because it was the hallway to the boy’s locker room.…

As a result, I played for teams that represented Rhode Island and even New England.…

The sense of family is what I enjoyed most about being part of the hockey team. We all look out for each other and support each other. We focus on the positive. We do not ignore the negative, we address it and move on. We are there for each other during the season as well as the off-season.…

Another time that I have taken a leadership role is when our sideline cheer team had a booth at the Water Festival. I took the morning shift and when I got there I had all of the materials but only me and my coach had shown up and she still had to head back to the school to get the things we were selling. So while she went and got the stuff I stayed at the booth and lead it by myself until my teammates came and helped. I decided to be a leader in this situation because I knew that it was what I had to do to help my coach out so that she could get her stuff done. I believe that by leading the booth for a few hours I helped my coach accomplish what she had to do for the day and helped my team by sitting at the booth fundraising to help pay for some of our debts.…

I recall the day so clearly, impatiently waiting in the doctor’s office. Nothing was wrong with me; I was supposed to be at the rink for hockey practice or so I thought. Without our help, they wouldn’t have been able to have our knowledge in cheerleading and wouldn’t know what it was like to be one. Another way I have demonstrated leadership was through track.
