My most memorable moment, during my early years of school, was my seventh grade English Teacher, Mrs. McCoy. She was by far my favorite teacher ever. She made learning fun and enjoyable due to a very energetic and caring personality. You could tell that she genuinely cared about how well her students did in her class. She always worked with her students that needed extra help with the assignments. And I was definitely one of her students that always needed extra help. They all were making comments about how I was in trouble for not doing my homework. She finally told them to stop giving me a hard time. She had something to discuss with me that was none of their concern. After everyone left the room, except me, she turned to me and asked why was I not participating in class? I told her the truth: I was unable to complete the assignment. I didn’t read the chapters the night before. I also told her that after I did my chores and other homework, I simply didn’t have time. My parents didn’t make my education a priority, I would come home from school, do my chores and start dinner. I had to have dinner on the table by the time my dad got home from work. I then had to wake up my mom, she worked third shift, to eat dinner with us. After dinner, I had to clean up the kitchen and do the dishes by hand. Only then I could work on my homework. I also told her about my difficulties with reading and writing reports about what I had read. She asked me to read aloud out of the book we were reading and I did. I read the first two pages out of the story and right then she understood what I was talking about. I was not reading to my grade level at all. I was having a hard time saying words that are standard vocabulary words for a seventh grader. When I had finished reading, she looked at me, smiled and said, “We will get
