Personal Narrative: My Father's Dinner

“Dad, this is your company. Why do I have to go to this stupid board meeting?” I asked for the hundredth time. I really hated meetings and having to sit for so long and listen to guys in their 50s talk about how much better they can make the company. I’m 18! I have better things to be doing, for example, go out shopping for a prom dress, help plan the senior prank, and lastly find out when senior ditch day is! “For the last time Emily, you will be taking over the company when you graduate, you need this experience. And don’t you remember what your mother and I were talking to you about last night at dinner? How we are combining two companies together today?” My father uttered.

Now that I think of it, I do recall them saying something about the company, but once I heard that word I brought out my phone from under the table and started to read. I just kept one ear open, so I didn’t get caught. “Oh yea, sorry...it just slipped my mind.” I breathed, knowing he wouldn’t see through my lie.

I walked over to the empty eat, as my father took his seat. I pulled the rolly chair back, sat down, and then pulled myself up towards the table. I looked at my father as he began to talk to everyone. I felt a slight tap on my shoulder and then turned to come face to face with the boy. “I’m Jayce.” He said holding out his hand for me to shake. I held out my hand to met his and he grasped it tightly, “Emily.” I
