Personal Narrative: My Father's Bowling Alley

Improved Essays
When I was a little boy, I loved to play sports and be active. When I woke up in the morning, I ask myself, “What am I going to accomplish today,” or “Where am I going to go today?” There is always one place for me that makes me who I really am and makes everything perfect, and that's the Bowling Alley. Ever since I was a little kid, my dad has been teaching me every little thing I needed to know about Bowling. I always wanted a tutor, but my dad always said no because he wanted to teach me to be just like him. And soon enough, I was really good at what I love. I started a bowling league in Freeport when I was at the age of 7, it was really hard at first because I didn’t know anybody there so it was a difficult time making friends. Normally

From a young age, I had to compete for my father’s affections. He was more athletically oriented and therefore inclined to my brother. As a result, my brother participated in hockey, soccer, and bowling much to his dismay as sports were not his particular forte. While he enjoyed hockey at first, he has come to detest most sports due to how forcefully passionate our father became. No matter how hard I pushed myself to strive for perfection, it was never enough for him, nothing I did was.…

With over 70 bowling centers operated by Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation worldwide, you can hardly throw a rock on an Army post without hitting one. Bowling is a “lifetime sport that anyone can do,” according to Jim Einhorn of the Galaxy Bowling and Entertainment Center on Panzer Kaserne—which goes some way to explaining its popularity. Einhorn knows something or two about the enduring appeal of the game. The former Army Europe Men’s Bowling Champion previously managed a facility in Heidelberg and started working as a pinsetter in a semi-automatic bowling machine as a teenager, earning twenty-five cents a line.…

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

The baseball diamond has a magical effect on my emotions, which produce so much energy it seems to take over my body and mind. I’ll never forget my first baseball glove and bat. It was spring time in 1983, the snow had finally melted, robins were singing on bare tree branches and the maple trees were blooming. My father took me into town driving our Burgundy 1980 Chevy Malibu Classic. As we parked the car, I asked my dad” what are we doing here”?…

The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach.…

Many people believe bowling is not a sport because they see it as something you do on a Friday night with a bunch of friends while drinking alcoholic beverages. Although these people do not see many of the youth and adult bowlers getting up early on Saturday morning and traveling out of state to different tournaments every weekend. This sport has so much to offer, if people would actually take the time to look into it they could actually start winning scholarship money or even cash money. This sport provides an outlet for the youth to meet new friends and become more confident in themselves after they improve their average every month. This sport can allow the adult bowlers to make this a job every weekend, so they can bring home some extra…
