Throughout my life, I have had to overcome some of the hardest obstacles. I was diagnosed with Common Variable Immunodeficiency, a disease causing me to have an extremely low immune system that forced me to grow up constantly sick…
One big obstacle I had to over come was, when I discovered I had Frontal Lobe Epilepsy. I had my first seizure in my Junior year, October 18, 2013 on my best friends birthday, in the middle of my fathers AP United States History class. At the time we thought it was a one time thing and it was not going to happen again. That was until my Birthday party in July the following summer. We returned to the Neurologist to get another EEG and MRI.…
Some challenges I’ve had to overcome start with me needing to get my life fixed. I used to be the student in high school that didn’t care about how they looked or what grades they got. I had no self-confidence in who I was and I had no aspirations on what I wanted to do with my life. Once high school was over life hit me and I needed to stop being the person I was because it was getting me nowhere in life. Now that I changed my attitude and my lifestyle I now get good grades and I finally feel that I have a clear future for…
When I was 6 years old my father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, also known as M.S. At first the disease seemed to only slightly hinder his capabilities, but as his he got older the toll Multiple Sclerosis took on his body grew tremendously. My father would soon be forced to stop playing basketball at the local gym, and also stop running in five kilometer races.…
Alex Barraclough Mr.Pfarrer English 101, per 9 22 September 2015 On Friday October 4th 2013 I arrived home from school, my agenda consisted of watching netflix and playing video games, I didn't expect my mother to come to me and say ”Your father committed suicide” I paused in perplexity. At that moment I began to question myself. How can this have happened? How could my my own blood have done such a thing?…
The biggest struggle I’ve had to overcome is a personal one. No, I did not have to raise myself out of poverty or stand up to any injustice being committed but for me at least it was a struggle. When I was little I had a terrible stutter/speech impediment or whatever you want to call it. Think of the guy from The Kings Speech but less Royal and without an academy award. I would speak too fast, with a stream of partial words and syllables pouring out of my mouth occasionally tripping up and stopping and stuttering mid-sentence.…
The only thing that was life changing is that my dad changed jobs from working in Iowa city and being gone all the time, to switching jobs in Clarence so I’d see him more. When I was littler, me and my brothers would get up super early Christmas morning so that we could hopefully open all the presents that were underneath the tree. We would separate the presents and try to figure out what was inside each one, while we waited for our parents to get up.…
Statistics are mathematical equations. They are numbers. They mean little to me. Statistically, there is a 000000001% chance that you are the person that will read this essay. And yet, here you are.…
Barriers and adversity are two things that shape people and their lifestyles. Like any other person, I’ve had my fair share of problems. However, my biggest burden has been the fact that no matter how much my father wishes to be in my life, he can’t. On May 25, 1995, my father was imprisoned in Mexico. I’ve only heard his voice in phone calls and seen him in pictures.…
A challenge or obstacle I have overcome that impacted my life educational would be my parents divorce. I love both my parents with all of my heart, and when they got divorced everything changed. In the beginning my mom would get us up at five am to get us to school on time. Living an hour away from school wasn’t my ideal living situation. While my mom lived in Randall, my dad resided in St.Cloud.…
Growing up with many obstacles have been difficult for me as it has been for my parents. Both my parents have immigrated to the U.S. at early ages to pick crops. Both of them, ironically, come from big families. Growing up, it has been difficult learning English as a second language because my parents were only Mixteco and Spanish speakers. As I got older I taught myself and tried extremely hard in school not to be a burden to my parents who were always worrying.…
• I overcome many obstacles in my personal life. When I was younger I went to foster care along with my three brothers. Reason being my mom was very sick and was in and out of the hospital, and my dad barely took care of me and my brothers. After long years in foster care at the age of nine my brothers and I were going to be adopted out, we were going to be separated. But my grandparents stepped in on time and got us.…
When I was four years old I almost died. I fractured the left side of my skull while playing with a ball. The fracture caused two subdural hematomas resulting in a traumatic brain injury. After my surgery I went into rehab and was discharged a week later. Today I still deal with the results from this accident.…
One of the most challenging things I have gone through that I am still facing every day, is losing my dad at the age of four and growing up without a father.…
There are so many struggles I have experienced in my life. Some of them were easy to go through, others were challenging and hard, but still got through it. Some of the hardest struggles that I overcame with my family was literacy and poverty. Literacy is the ability to read or write. I was illiterate my childhood years until my country started developing to build schools, hospitals and etc.…
