It all started on a gloomy day in Mena Arkansas, when I lied, but for the right reasons. Throughout the story just remember that I only lied to comfort my brokenhearted friend Emily. So, early one morning, I was riding on the bus waiting for my friends Emily and Cheyenne to get on. Once they got on, Emily sat up against the window and she wasn’t talking to us and I was worried because usually she had a huge mouth.
About 10 minutes later, I asked her why she wasn’t talking, and she didn’t answer me, so I just left it alone and carried on my conversation with Cheyenne. When we got to school she was still acting the same so I asked her again. No response. So we sat down in the cafeteria, like every other day, and she didn’t even eat, and I saw

Then she started crying louder and louder and she said, “Well, he died yesterday”.I knew that I had to do something, and I had an idea, but It wasn’t the best. But what can I say, I was in first grade.
In that moment, I knew what I was going to do to sew up my best friends heart. I remembered the night before was New Year's Eve and my family had a party and we had a bonfire, and we had a lot of fun. But I remembered something, I remembered that my dad had tripped and stepped through the fire while we were there, and I knew what I was going to say.
Once we were at lunch that day, I decided that I was going to tell her that my dad had died in a fire that weekend too. So when I did tell her, Cheyenne overheard and she told my teacher Mrs. Caster. Mrs. Caster was a really sweet lady, and she and I got along really well, but when she called me after class to talk to her, I thought she was going to turn into some kind of giant bug and eat me or something, I remember the sweat bullets running down my face, and feeling like that lie was going to eat me from the inside out. She told me that she had heard about my dad, so she called my family and she told my dad what I had said. She told me that i needed to have a talk with my dad when I get

It was two weeks before Mom and Dad died, we had come to celebrate the new car. As I was reminiscing, my nightmare sped through my head in a split second, but it still managed to scare me enough to scream in a crowded restaurant. My brothers and Mary leaped out of their seats, and Soda hugged me. I found it amazing, how Darry and Soda seemed to know, I guess they were thinking about our last time here too. Maybe we’re even closer than I thought.…

As I sit in church every Sunday morning, I can’t help but notice my pastor’s actions. He walks up to the pulpit, lays his bottle of water and bible down, and begins his sermon. Throughout the sermon, he begins to lose his voice and gasps for air. He immediately grabs his water and begins to guzzle it. As the congregation waits patiently for the sermon to resume, I begin to reflect on the hard times my pastor has gone through to get here.…

When I began working for the Veteran’s Administration as a personal care attendant for veterans that are wheelchair bound I had no idea how profoundly one veteran would affect me. This veteran, whom I will refer to as D-man, would become part of my life for 3 years. This is the first experience that I would have with a totally dependent quadriplegic. Even though I have worked as a medical assistant for many years, this was the first time that I would get to experience up close and personal, the day-in and day-out challenges facing paraplegics and quadriplegics, not only for D-man but also his mother who is his full-time caregiver.…

Alacia Miller Dr. Hodgson ENGL 1113 October 19, 2014 I tend to offend a lot of people when I say I did not join the Army to serve my country. Sure, I’m patriotic. I like football, the right to bear arms, and being able to say anything I want about anything I want whenever I want. I am definitely glad I was born in the land of the free and not in the Middle East where I surely would have been killed at a young age for my insubordination.…

“I will not let my days slip away, I will stand up on to feet, and I’ll be complete.” ~Blixemi It all started when I was in second or third grade. I always seemed different and off from most girls and had a lot of friends that were female, which was normal in elementary, to have same-gender friends. Though I had so many friends to play with, I always seemed to wander to where the boys hung out. Usually, I would mess around with my younger brother’s friends.…

Growing up, my father was in the U.S. Air Force at the time, meaning that I never get to stay one place my entire life. I went from being in San Antonio for almost a good 2 years, then my father was stationed in Fairfield, California, so we had to move there and that’s where I more or less spent my childhood. Then my father was stationed back to San Antonio, so we moved back to my birth state. My family was interesting.…

Incivility and civility play a major role within our society. Incivilities are more prominent compared to acts of civility. Discrimination, racism and ethnicity are three major issues faced in schools all over the world. During my freshman year of high school I experienced many forms of incivility, but after getting through these issues and realizing there are good, selfless people in this world, I was able to have an impact on another girl’s life. It was a regular Monday recess when I was heading to the bathroom with a friend to touch up our make-up when a young girl of color came flying into the bathroom wearing red Nikes and athletic attire.…
