Personal Narrative: My Failure In High School

Decent Essays
A time I experienced failure was in my freshman year of High School. At the time, I had prioritized my friends and having fun over focusing on my studies. I didn't see any importance in applying myself at school. This resulted in an extreme drop in my grades and performance inside the classroom. The school I was attending offered college courses, and I failed two simply because I felt that I didn't need to put any effort into the classes and that my friends were more important. After I saw I had failed the courses, I was devastated. I had never failed a class before and it served as a reality check. I realized that, in order for me to be successful, I would need to sacrifice certain things that I may not want to. After changing schools, I became

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

During my junior year I experienced failure. I had taken 3 AP classes and I was in cheer at my high school, and trying to figure out a balance between the two was difficult for me because it seemed like cheer took up a lot of my time and in the past other two years it had, but I had managed to still do well in my honors and AP classes. My junior year was another story, I struggled a lot at the beginning of the school year, and most of first semester was spent with me having an F sometimes more than one, and that was a failure to me because I had my heart set on going to a four college or university and I knew that if i had an F i wouldnt qualify.…

One of our largest competitors at state is a high school that brings around five hundred kids each year.…

“You cheated”, slipped from my mouth. I was referring to my English Class. Frustration, filled my voice as I was disappointed in myself because I received a B. In my life I have only ever got one B and for reasons beyond my control and to complex to be explained. However, this B feels like my first real B. It resembles the first course that has ever conquered me. Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

Everyone learns and studies differently so in order to really succeed you must find what works for you, and how to keep everything in order. It took me forever to really understand I needed to find my own organization and study tactics. Along with organization the need to use my failures to rise up in my classes really led me to maintain high grades. In my edblog “Failure” I discuss the troubles of failure and how to use it to construct a foundation for school. I find I learn more from failures than excelling grades, because it shows that not everything can be handed to you and that I needed to step up, change what I had been doing, and learn new things in order to help me succeed.…
